Review of Supercuts hair salon

Supercuts hairdressing salons are springing up in towns and shopping malls throughout the UK. The company operate on a no appointment basis, you simply turn up, book in and they do your hair. Men, women and children are catered for and the system seems to work for them.
✶✶MY EXPERIENCE✶✶

Now, hairdressers and I do not mix. I last had my hair cut in 1990, other than when my other half cut off a bit with the kitchen scissors after I got paint in my hair, but that's another story! Consequently my hair was hip length, uncared for and rather messy! It was kept clean, obviously, but most of the time I just wore it tied back.
On the Friday before Christmas 2008, I was walking past the Supercuts branch in the Weston Favell Shopping Centre, Northamptonshire, when a weird sensation came over me and before I had time to stop and consider, I walked in and asked if I could get a haircut. I was booked in and as the salon was fairly quiet, I was escorted to a stylist straightaway.

She listened carefully as I explained how long it was since I had had a haircut and that I come into the salon on impulse. She was very sweet and although slightly taken aback at the length of my hair when untied, she was very complimentary on the condition of my locks! Whether that was sales pitch or not, I don't know, but she did seem genuinely surprised that I had used no products apart from shampoo and conditioner for years and don't even use a hairdryer.
What truly impressed me was her attitude, polite and pleasant, but overall, caring. She asked me several times if I was sure I wanted to cut my hair and suggested styles that might suit, I had originally pointed to a photograph on the wall of a woman with a bob type style and said words to the effect of 'like that, please'. The stylist explained that the style I indicated probably wouldn't work well with the texture and natural waves of my hair and steered me towards a longer, choppier style which would suit my face shape and hair type.

With my agreement, the work began, first a shampoo, which in itself was a bit of an ordeal as my hair was too long for the basin! Shampooing done , the real business started...cutting!
The amount of hair that was cut off was startling, the floor around me was a veritable sea of hair, at one point there was so much flying around that the salon junior was called over to sweep up mid cut! The junior then came back to watch the proceedings and told me that she'd never seen someone with very long hair having it cut!
The end style is very pleasing, shoulder length, layers cut into the back and sides and a feathery fringe. I am really delighted with my hair-do and the ease with which I can manage it at home, wash it, brush it and go! It was £30 well spent and considering that I was in the salon for well over an hour, not expensive.
I can see by reading other reviews, that some customers haven't been as happy as I am with Supercuts, of course everyone's experience will differ, but for my money, all £30 of it, I was well pleased. The salon was bright, clean and tidy, the staff pleasant and competent and the end result, my hair cut, everything I could have wanted. I just wish that I could remember the stylist's name, she was so good that I would have liked to commend her publically!

✶✶THE COMPANY✶✶
The company, Supercuts, is part of the Regis group. Salons are located throughout the UK mainly in shopping centres. Salons offer a full range of services, cutting, colouring, styling, perms, blow drying and the sales of hair care products. I was asked if I wished to buy any of the products that the stylist had used, but this was done in a very businesslike fashion with absolutely no sales pressure.
Note:- I understand that if a colouring procedure is required, the salon reserve the right to insist upon a skin test before undertaking the treatment, very sensible in my view!

The branch I used can be contacted at:-

✶✶My thoughts and conclusion✶✶
Supercuts was, for me, a very good salon. I cannot praise the service I received highly enough. In comparison to other salon's prices, I felt the cost was fair and the end result worth every penny. Even now, a couple of months later, my hair is still fine!
If you need a haircut in a hurry, why not give Supercuts a try?

Thank you for reading.

I had a rubbish haircut in the Supercuts in Angel, Islington - but obviously it depends where you go and who you get - nice review.
