Advantages: lots of clubs

Disadvantages: can be a little expensive

As a relative newbie to Nottingham have been pleasantly surprised by just how active the tennis community is. I can count 4 decent sized clubs within a 5 mile radius of my house in Daybrook.

As a member I am biased but Woodthorpe Tennis Club http://www.woodthorpeltc.webs.com/ is amongst the friendliest I have visited, has excellent facilities, a forward thinking committee and a great location.

Other clubs I would recommend - West Bridgford (excellent courts, but expensive), Caunton (for North Notts) and The Park if you live right in the middle.

The Nottingham tennis centre is also a great facility for the city. Based near the main Nottingham University campus this contains 8 indoor and I think 14 outdoor courts. All can be hired for a reasonable price and they run indoor team competitions in the winter.

Do what I did and just turn up at a club, most are very welcoming, or try one of the open days that most clubs hold regularly in the year
