Newest Review: ... the Italians deserved to win in the night (even though they shouldn't have got that far in the first place!!), but they let up for the last 2 minutes of injury time and payed the ultimate price, but to be honest once the french equalized the italians seemed to have just given up, I mean come on this is the european championship final, you should have been able to keep you're heads held high for that one!! however I guess that we'll have to put up with the french not caring for anything because 'I won the european championship' ... more

so we have to put up with the french being arrogant for another 2 years? please tell me this isn't happening, first off the Italians deserved to win in the night (even though they shouldn't have got that far in the first place!!), but they let up for the last 2 minutes of injury time and payed the ultimate price, but to be honest once the french equalized the italians seemed to have just given up, I mean come on this is the european championship final, you should have been able to keep you're heads held high for that one!! however I guess that we'll have to put up with the french not caring for anything because 'I won the european championship' ...  Read the complete review

“Football has the habit of making fools of us,” remarked Sir Alex Ferguson in a Sunday Newspaper interview on the day of the final. And it so nearly did. Italy were less than a minute away from causing one of the biggest upsets in this tournament’s history, and even worse putting real damper on my Sunday evening. This match was dubbed as ‘Gallic flair versus Roman resilience’. However the pundits were unanimous in their final view - the French would cream it –“ they are quite simply – too classy” The match promised everything football afficionados dream about. The French line-up, fronted by the God like ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Final: The best team won with luck on its side (315 words)

That was quite a final wasn't it? France with all its creative play and flair could not find a crack in the rock solid Azzuri defence. The even went a goal down thanks to a deadly counter-attack. The Italians were masters of the art of defence and counter-attack. They held off wave after wave of French attack, until the last 30 seconds when Wiltord scored the equaliser to force the extra time. From then on, you could sense that it was France's night. France has created history as the only team to win the European Championships following the World Cup. And we are glad to have witnessed it. Well, some of us anyway... It would interesting to see how golden ...  Read the complete review

The France-Italy final was an extraordinary one. Just when you think you have it in your hands, you realise that every second counts in game like football. Who would have expected France to equalise in the dying moments of the stoppage time? And I suppose this would go down in history as the game where all three substitutes made a difference to the game. A fairy tale ending for France, but a nightmare for Italy. Italy defended well, and honestly I think they deserve to win the game. They could have put the score well beyond France's reach if they a little bit more luck on their side. That was just it, France was plain old lucky yesterday and that made a difference. ...  Read the complete review

Title: Viva La France Since the 10th June, when the Euro 2000 tournament started, appreciators of the beautiful game have witnessed great matches, great goals, great drama. Who will ever forget Alan Shearer burying that header to beat the Germans? And what about that stunning 4-3 Spanish comeback against Yugoslavia? The opening Belgium-Sweden match seems eternities away now that we have embarked upon the European Championship Final of France against Italy. The French team consisted of the usual sturdy defence. The Manchester-bound Fabien Barthez lined up in his “cage”, with his eccentricities. Thuram and Lizarazu, the two fullbacks, with the ...  Read the complete review
