Advantages: Do worries on Christmas Day.
Disadvantages: Takes some preparation.
Christmas day should be enjoyed by everybody and the task of cooking Christmas dinner should not be left to one individual. We try to prepare as much of the food as we can on Christmas eve. We also try to involve the children in this as it takes their minds off presents for a few minutes. We have all the vegetables peeled and washed and in the saucepans ready to be cooked. The bacon rolled up with little cocktail sticks holding them together. We lay the table ready for the meal and then we make a timetable. We decide at what time we want to have lunch and from that point we work backwards to determine when each part of the meal needs to be started. We write this all down on a piece of paper and then put this timetable in the kitchen ready for the next day. During Christmas morning everybody takes part in cooking dinner, because if anyone walks past the timetable and sees that something should be done, then they can just do it. This way nobody gets tied to the kitchen, and in the excitement of Christmas day, hopefully everything gets cooked and ready together and on time. I know time is not important on Christmas day, but it is nice to take some of the hassle out of the cooking with a fair bit of preparation beforehand, and letting everybody get involved.
