Advantages: Sitting down with your family
Disadvantages: Eating to much
Traditional Christmas dinner has to be one of the nations favorite meals for many reasons,A- it's chance to stuff your face with lavish foods and not care about how much you eat, and B- It's an extra special meal as you sit down with your nearest and dearest to enjoy this special day.
Since moving into my own house 3 years ago we have always been invited to my parents or my partners for Christmas dinner, therefore have not had chance to fully cook a whole Christmas dinner from scratch and entertain guests at the same time in the comfort of my own home, although this year will be different, my family are coming over as in the year we have moved into a bigger place and my parents downsized.
So this year i will be cooking for 11 people!! I do love cooking and im excited in a way, to get to show to my family what i can do. I can't fault my mum's cooking not one bit and she will be in the kitchen helping me out and making her famous onion sauce which everybody loves.
Since making the arrangement last month, i have been thinking non stop as to how i can make the dinner a extra special one as this year has been tough on everyone. We normally have a three course meal and for starter i thought I'd stick with the favorites, a choice of three- prawn cocktail, leek and potato soup, or homemade breaded garlic mushrooms. I will make these from scratch a on the day will ask everyone beforehand which one they prefer, in my head i know the answers, as dad only likes mushrooms, my brother only likes prawns, and my big sister will only eat the mushrooms too.- but you get where im going.
For the main course i will be doing Turkey and beef so there is a choice, accompanied by, roast potato's, mash, carrots, brussel sprouts, roasted parsnips, pea's and swede- all seasonal vegetables. Then i will do big pot's of gravy, bread sauce, onion sauce, and condiments like cranberry and horseradish- These always go down well.
For dessert i again will be doing three variety's, Christmas pudding, Trifle, and cheesecake, so everyone can have what they like, to go with the puddings i will have cream, ice cream, and brandy sauce.
I know i said three courses but after everyones meals have gone down, i will be making coffee and mints for everyone and slicing up the christmas cake that my dear Nan has made.
By now as you can imagine we will probably all be stuffed to the brim, but very happy!
To make things extra special i like to decorate the table and room too,
~ A christmassy tablecloth
~ Napkins
~ Christmas crackers
~ Wine glasses
~ A wreath in the middle of the table with a lit candle
~ Little presents for every guest
~ Christmas carols playing in the background.
Well thats how i will doing my christmas dinner this year, very traditional, but thats how we like it.
Summary: An excuse to eat how much you want without feeling guilty
