Disadvantages: too early, `
I am writing about the time the England games are being broadcast in England. The England games for the world cup 2002 are going to be broadcast at around 7am and 8am in the morning which will be a pain to most supporters because most people like to relax at night or go down the pub at night and watch the world cup but next year the games won’t be the same at 7am and 8am in the morning. I feel it will be weird sipping a pint at 7am in the morning and I feel it will not have the same atmosphere as it would being broadcast at a later time in the afternoon because most people will be at work. There is another argument about the games being broadcast so early is if England are doing well more and more people will be taking time off work to watch the games and this can’t be good because if England get in the final I am sure most people in England will watch it in the morning so this will bring the work industry to a standstill. It is a very debatable topic but what options do FIFA have, they have to show the games at these times because it is during the day in Japan and South Korea so they cannot really change the times just for people in England. The only options I feel FIFA have or the television companies is to not broadcast until it is later on in the day in England and try not to tell anyone what the score’s are but I feel that will be impossible to do with all the reporters over their watching the football and other People are bound to report back to England.

- 06/11/01 Quite a few of the games will be on at about 1230 GMT. As the previous comment stated, FIFA cannot please everyone. In 2006 Asian football fans will be moaning. |

- 04/11/01 A good analysis on a very relevant issue. Indeed, what can FIFA do? They cannot please everyone. I like your exploration of the possibility of showing tape delayed matches. I lived in the Philippines during World Cup USA 94, and was lucky to have a Japanese channel that showed matches tape delayed. In the Philippines, where no one really follows soccer, it was easy to avoid finding out the scores, thus making the tape delayed games as good as if they were live! |
