Advantages: can dry more washing in one go than a straight line, strong, easy to put up and down
Disadvantages: no cover supplied, tempting for kids to play on, need somewhere to store it
My retractable washing line has finally given up. After getting longer and longer it has snapped with a full load of whites just hung out (grrr). My kids used to hang on to it while jumping on the trampoline so it didn't have much of a life. I decided to try a rotary line as we have 4 kids and the line was always full. I chose the brabantia lift-o-matic 60m mainly because it was being sold in costco for £40. The 50m one in index is £58.99. You can have it at different heights to suit you and it is easy to get up and down. There is a loop on top in case you want to hang it on a hook for storage and a small strap attached to secure the lines when folded to make it safer and tidier. It comes complete with a soil spike which was hard to get into our lawn but we managed eventually and a cap for the hole which clips onto the line so you don't lose it. I can dry more washing at one go now but it can take longer if there is no breeze out as there is more wet washing in a smaller space. The only problem I have had was yesterday when I looked out just in time to see my youngest son hanging from one of the arms while my daughter pushed him round. Luckily it has a 5 year guarantee ( shame the kids don't!). I never leave it in the ground in the down position as even with the strap a small child could get their haed, arm or leg caught. It only takes a few seconds to lock it in the shed.
