I was given a second-hand rotary washing line from my parents when they changed theirs to a retractable line, which runs along side the path. We didn’t have a spear fitting, so my Dad just stuck the drier pole deep into the ground, but this stopped the drier rotating. It was still very efficient in drying clothes though. What is the best way to hang out your washing? I bought a rotary line from Argos and within a few weeks I had to take it back as the cord became very floppy after only a couple of loads. The replacement one didn't stay open and kept sliding back down the pole once I put the washing on it. I then thought ok I'll try the straight cord and attach it across the garden, this was lot better but 6 months down the line it's starting to fray. Is it me, do we have an extra heavy load of washing or are these things made of cheap materials such as sewing cotton? What is the best way to do this? Having only a very small garden I don't have a choice of what type of drier I use, but if I did it certainly wouldn't be a rotary. Washing takes much longer to dry and the clothes that are pegged on the inside never do get really dry unless it's a boiling hot day. I am forever having to go out and swap the clothes around so that they all get the chance to have a blow on the outside. Another problem is that the lines sag very quickly and it's not very easy to tighten them.
