If you have a garden pond any pond and you have fish please don;t neglect them over the winter.If you put a bucket at the bottom of the pond on it;s side and weigh it down with a brick, it gives the fish somewere to shelter.Fish become very sluggish in winter and should;nt be fed,they would be unable to digest the food properly and could die. They should be given some nutritious feed well before the first frosts. Try to keep the pond from completly freezing over by putting a ball on the water this will keep a part open.If leaves from around your garden fall on the pond, try to get them off quickly as they sink to the bottom and can contaminate the water.Try to cover the pond with netting it helps to keep debris away as well.
