Population about 7,000. Very run down, many boarded up shops, but Allerdale Council and the town council are looking to change its notorious reputation of being a ?hard? town.  ... and looks quite good. There is also an aquarium, a sports hall and a Woolworths! Cockermouth --------------- My home town! Population about 7-8 thousand. The Allerdale Council doesn?t seem to care much about Cockermouth and not many developments happen...more

This is my opinion on Allerdale Borough and also the council. You may find it useful if you are considering to move to this area and want to know more about it. Situation/Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Allerdale Borough is situated in the North-West of England, inside the County of Cumbria. Parts of Allerdale are inside the national park, but the only big town in the national park is Keswick, which is a huge tourist destination. The borough runs mainly up the coast, starting up the top at Silloth and running down the coast line to Workington.
