Advantages: Gives Dooyoo some dosh

Disadvantages: Prostitudes people's opinions

I'm disgusted with Dooyoo! How could you? What's wrong, I hear you cry? Well, I'm on about the new Palm advertisement that appears at the end of every written opinion on Dooyoo, which will probably be at the end of this opinion. I can accept that adverts help fund the rewards 'palm-ed' dished out to members. I'm disgusted that ads like these are appearing within opinions. Its paramount to prostitution!

I think we can all accept ads appearing around, over or beneath opinions. Also we can accept URL links or ads appearing within appropriate sections, in this case within the electronic section. What I deem is not acceptable is adverts appearing within opinions or pop-up windows! When reading an opinion about 'fennel sauce', as I was, I was more interested in finding out about the sauce than the latest electronic innovation from PALM. This totally distracted me from what was written!

However, at first glances the advert is impressive. The graphics are good. It looks like an interesting product. Its states that they are giving away SD memory card for 'Chrimbo' with every PALM - whatever SD means! Its advertising slogan is: 'simple, expandable, mobile, sleek'. Yeah so what! With a little rage and a hint of curiosity I decided to explore - only for the purposes of writing this opinion, of course! I clicked on the 'click here to explore' button, thinking that I'd be magically whisked away to Palm's website. Maybe with the rage had got the better of me, as my view had been somewhat clouded as I still remained at Dooyoo and the opinion I had just read and rated! I had failed to notice the ad had changed. I was now greeted with the flashing 'explore more button'. Clicking on the button, I was now being presented with a pull down menu. The following options were now available to explore:

"Ultra Expandable: stores so much more with SD cards" - so much more than what? Whe
re are the comparisons? Palm please expand, as I've no idea what you are talking about. If a fellow member had written this it would be on the SWU/NU side. I'm not impressed.

"Internet & Email Capable: information at your fingertips, send & receive email and access the web". Cool it can access the Internet and send email. However the small print warns that you must have an email account, modem and a compatible phone. Oh! What's a compatible phone?

"Edit and manage Excel and Word?: View and edit documents on the move", with the m500 series software. Sounds useful, the Excel & Word bit anyway, and I'm possibly interesting but I still need more information. What's m500 series software? How does this compare favourably to Word and Excel 2000 that I use both at home and work for word-processing and spreadsheets?

"Sleek & Compact: stores so much more yet so light to carry" So much more than what? What's the definition of light? Well, the ad states it weighs no more than an apple 4.90oz!!! Ounces, isn't there a European directive on this? What's that in grams? Its compactness is compared to your finger (could I suggest the middle finger) and is able to fit in your pocket. Would you want a delicate electronic device inside your pocket - me neither! I suppose it could bring the meaning, is that a 'palm' in your pocket or are you pleased to see me?

Clicking on the 'click here' for more information takes you to the Palm website (http://www.palm.com/uk/products/promosd/), with a chance of adding your details to their database, accessing the promotional offer for the SD memory (whatever SD means) and entering a competition to win a Panasonic digital camera. Thanks to a recent download of Internet Explorer I can block all cookies that gather personal data and information that can be used by both this company and others.

As you might have realised, I'm no
t impressed with the 'prostituting' of ads and products into opinions. I realise that these help fund payments and rewards, regardless of how slick and stylish ad maybe. To be fair to Palm, this ad looks good but lacks significant information and is akin to a SWU opinion on Dooyoo. You need to really dig deep on their website to find out about all the questions I have raised. Please keep adverts and opinions separate Dooyoo?

I agree with you, the ads are a nuisance & very distracting & compared to how dooyoo used to be & sometimes the ads seem to be taking over! (I will never forget the Nokia pop-up!)
I certainly wouldn't write for 1p a read, so I guess that I have to suffer the inconvenience of the ads & not moan too much! (I've been struggling all year to reach £100 since I found I couldn't cash in my £50 without paying £5! (I'm not mercenary but I feel that I deserve more for my efforts LOL!)
