Advantages: Barnet is interesting
Disadvantages: Barnet Coucil is rubbish
Having lived in Barnet for the last nineteen years of my life, I have come to the conclusion that Barnet is in fact one of the most boring places on the Earth. The only attractions that Barnet has to offer is a five screen Odeon cinema that is having difficulty in competing with the UGC in Enfield and the Finchley Warner Village; and the Spires Shopping Centre, probably one of the worst shopping centres if you want anything half decent. If you want that you have to travel to somewhere like Brent Cross, Lakeside or the Harlequin Centre in Watford. One thing I do like about Barnet is the idea of a coffee shop in a bank, but you can read about that later in one of my other opinions. However boring Barnet seems to be, there is some excitement. A man got shot behind the Pizza Hut on Barnet High Street and a friend of mine has been mugged at the bus stop at Barnet General Hospital. But then of course Barnet has the celebrities as well. Over in Hadley Wood, Arkley and Totteridge, you'll find many a footballer from Arsenal and Spurs along with other well known faces like Jeremy Beadle, although living next to Jeremy Beadle would be worrying, based upon the practical jokes he's played in the past. Of course, we cannot forget Barnet Football Club, who sadly dropped out of Division 3 of the Football League this year. After years of trouble on and off the pitch, Barnet has been relegated and is poised to remain in the Conference for at least the next two years, because they are searching for a new home. The other thing we cannot forget is the incompetent 'we don't reply to you' Barnet Council, who have a policy of doing nothing when you complain, and make decisions only when newspapers become involved. This is a sad state of affairs, but we cannot do much. One person I do admire though is my local MP, Sir Sydney Chapman. He has put a lot of hard work into the community and is a champion of community issue
s. It will be a sad state of affairs if he is not re-elected, as MP for Chipping Barnet, because he is what every politician should aspire to- a pillar of the community, who fights for his community. Getting back to Barnet Council and its web site, I must admit, it has to be one of the worst web sites I have been to. It is bot that easy to find your way around and it is incredibly slow. Clicking on some of the links that I thought would be useful, I find that there is just a brief description- no useful information about the topic itself. The council seem to be using the idea of a web site as a PR stunt, rather than a source of useful information. Therefore, I recommend that if you want to find information about Barnet, look at alternative web sites by searching using a search engine, or use people's reviews on sites like this, that tell the truth about things. Anyway, that’s enough rambling by me, so Barnet can be described as interesting or not, depending upon what you find interesting.
