Advantages: makes moeny for dooyoo
Disadvantages: nothing until they are abused.
Is it me on has everyone's computer been invaded today? I logged on cautiously this afternoon to see how the site was coping with the changes in payment and member uproar. All seemed calm. A Nokia banner popped up advertising the new games thingy, that has been advertised on telly a lot recently. It's not a bad banner but I hate computer games so I clicked on the corner to ask it politely to clear off. Away it went. Then I went to my profile page. "Ta Da! Nokia here! Just wondered if you'd seen this banner?" "Yes Nokia I had - how could I miss it - you block off half the screen. Didn't I click you to go away though?" "Nope, don't remember that. Anyway, you up for a game or what?" "No. Go Away." Click. And off he went once more. Now then, let's have a look at some new opinions. POP! "NOKIA here - how's about that game then? Interested?" "No Nokia, I don't like games, can you shove off so I can read this op please?" "Okey dokey" Click. Right lets read this thing then. Hmmm. Oh yes, that's good. Didn't know that. Nice angle. Well said. Pretty good read, that - I'll give it a VU. POP! "VU? You don't want to be rating at a time like this! No, you want to be having a game of Nokia - that's what you want to be doing!" "Actually, no. You're wrong there. I don't want a game. I'd really much rather stay here and rate this op." "Oh, alright then - if you're sure" Click. And away the pop up went. That op wasn't bad. Let's see who else rated it... POP! "Nokia here. Did I tell you we've got a new game coming out?" "Yes you did - and I wasn't interested!"
; Click. click. Gone. Phew. OK forget the rates, let's try another op... POP! "So no games then?" "NO, FOR THE LAST TIME - LEAVE ME ALONE!" Click. Right, that's it - I'm doing an op on dooyoo banner ads! And yes, it did pop up again when I went to the write your opinion section! NOW LOOK. I've nothing against banners and pop-ups. That's how dooyoo makes it's money and how we get paid. If I see something that takes my fancy then I'll click on the link and take a look. If it's not my cup of tea, I won't. But adverts that obscure the screen until you've read them are rude and intrusive. Maybe I'm unlucky and have been sent this nokia ad with love from Satan? But maybe it's dooyoo's way of upping the clicks on banners by making their presence so all-consuming. I don't know which but it makes me much less inclined to click on the ones that are of interest just for the way they are shown. Keep them there, at the top or at the side. Make them colouful and animated - that's great - just don't stick them in my face and don't bring them back when I've already said I'm not interested! Let me know if you've had the same experience or if Satan really has got me on his Christmas list. Moon. xx
