What on earth is going on? I've just been clicking my way around dooyoo, normally a pleasurable pasttime, and I seem to have become a one-man target for Nokia phones. Every time I have entered a page, a damn pop-up window has been generated extolling the virtues of something from Nokia. I couldn't tell you what though - I moved too quickly to close them down. Is there anybody at all out there who actually read these things? I suppose there must be, otherwise Nokia wouldn't bother doing it. But it is the most intensely annoying thing I've seen on this site. Now, before you start reflecting on my naivety and lack of commercial understanding, let me admit now that I have worked in below-the-line marketing. I have been responsible for things dropping on your doormat, unwanted and disliked. Heck, I even approve of it as a hugely effective marketing medium and believe there is nothing wrong with it, provided it is not abused. However, this Nokia pop-up is beyond the pail. Imagine if you picked up your pile of post in the morning, and just as you were about to open an envelope, a letter from Nokia worked its way to the top of the pile. It would infuriate you. Well, this is what this pop-up is doing. Nobody wants it because they have already made a choice of page to visit. Banners work because once you have finished with a page you may decide to enter another site that has caught your eye. Trying to interrupt someone before they are allowed to see the page they requested is self-defeating lunacy. So, Nokia, you know what you can do with whatever model you were advertising. The aim of direct marketing is to get the right message to the right person at the right time. I will gladly give up 10 dooyoo miles if you have found anyone who this applies to.

- 26/10/01 I have actually clicked through basically because I'm intrigued.
Put it this way, you wouldn't be clicking your way round doing collecting pennies if it wasn't for these adverts, so you have to accept them really as they are a good income for dooyoo. |

- 26/10/01 Ity won't be long before some site will have a way of avoiding these annoying 'pop-ups'. I have been using 'adbin' but it currently is no use for the Nokia curse. The adbin device also slows the copmuter down, so be warned. |
