Advantages: They have a lot of jobs on offer
Disadvantages: They charge loads of council tax
Leeds City council have been helpful in some ways and not so helpful in others.
I found the council tax situation a bit odd last year. I was living with 4 other students and my boyfriend was the only worker, he was only working 12 hours a week but still had to pay about £140 a month council tax with the student discount. They said it was because it was a large house, and in band B. They said he could apply for the council tax benefit but they would need all financial details of all my housemates and to meet them in person. As you can imagine this is impossible with 4 girls who dont really have a clue where their money is as their parents do it for them.
Now the council are much nicer and charging us £50 a month now we are in a 1 bed flat and I am still a student so we get a discount.
The council have a good website and my boyfriend found his job on there and was able to apply online easily and it all worked fine. They also did a CRB check for him which you can only get through organisations so that was useful.
I think the best thing about the council website is being able to pay your council tax online, as we never have time to go to the bank or post office to pay it. I have found the call centre staff for council tax quite helpful and polite most of the time.
They are great for employment as they have all sorts of different jobs for people with different qualifications and they are good at getting back to you quickly about jobs and also write if you didnt get them which I think is only polite.
Summary: Good and bad

- 14/11/08 Band B is the second cheapest rating. If they were charging £140 then heaven help the higher bands. |

- 13/11/08 £140 a month is a lot of money! We pay £86 and hope it won't go much higher. |
