Advantages: none

Disadvantages: very disadvantaged area

Originally from East Lothian, I moved to the Borders 12 years ago. During that period I required assistance for housing as I left my violent husband and taking my 3 children with me. I was eventually allocated a homeless accomodation (after a month staying in over-crowded conditions, with friends and their family) and then a HA house after another month. There are few facilities for domestic violence within the area - in fact even the main police HQ is based at Hawick. I lived in fear for 4 years with no assistance and eventually became very depressed and socially phobic.
I have left the area now, thank goodness, and have returned to my birth area - again with no help from any source in that area.
The deviding line between rich and poor is too great.

well done for getting out - I know how hard that can be.
as for the low rating - it's because the category is for info about the website and your op doesn't even mention that I think.....
Happy to re-rate if you add more info :)
all the best!
