Advantages: Good for your health

Disadvantages: MUST be used with caution

Aromatherapy is the use of plant extracts called essential oil to aid the health and well being of the individual.
Essential oils have been used for thousands and thousands of years. The Ancient Egyptians used them as did the Romans.
By far the most well known and useful of the essential oils is lavender. Taken from the plant of the same name, it can be used for many things.
A couple of drops on your pillow at night will help you get a good nights sleep. A few drops in your bath water will help relax you and ease aching muscles. it can even be used on insect bites, stings, bruises and burns.
Most of the essential oils MUST be diluted with a carrier oil such as sweet almond or grapeseed. There are a few exceptions Lavender being one and Tea Tree being another. A couple of drops of lavender on a burn (not a scald) will ease the pain, reduce the swelling and also reduce scarring. A drop of tea tree on a spot or pimple will reduce and eventually clear it up.
Not all essential oils are safe to use around pregnant ladies or children so always consult either a very good guide book (lots available in good book shops) or a practicing aromatherapist for advice.

You can use Lemon un-dilluted as well (but only a drop...). Stops bleeding when you have a little cut on your finger. Essential oils are also great for controlling your mood. Try this: Choose until 3 sorts of relaxing oils (i.e.Sandalwood, Lavender, Franincense)and add it to your bath-water. Close the door, relax in the water, light some candles, feel good.... Do this 14 days, every evening for 20 minutes with the same oils. Then use the same oil-mixture onto a stone/cotton wool etc. and take with you whereever you go. If you are in a stressy or unpleasend situation, have a sniff. It triggers automaticly the memory of the relaxing time you had in the bath and you feel better. Don't ask me how it works; but it works!! Regards, Dagmar
