Advantages: Too numerous to list

Disadvantages: Need to take the time out to learn about the oils

The use of essential oils commonly now know as aromatherapy has been around for centuries, only now it has turned into somewhat of a commercial venture. The properties of the various oils induce different sensations, and all help heal the body in a different way . Anyone interested in aromatherapy must first educate themselves before diving in, as there are certain guidelines to put into practice to ensure safety.

A fine example of this is when warming an essential oil NEVER place straight on to the subjects body, as burning or blistering could certainly happen......always try to warm the oil in your hands first and massage well into the affected area.

Taking time to learn about what the different oils can achieve with proper useage,is well worth it. Because we are given the sense of smell, the sensation we feel from the fragrant oils can be very relaxing and calming, just as some certain smells can conjure up pleasant images from the past. Our sense of smell does not receive the credit it deserves, it is a very useful feature of our human body, and certainly is very important in our daily lives.

Aromatherapy is definately the way forward into helping people with various medical complaints. The most appealing aspect of the oils is their own versatility - they can be used in so many ways. Oil buring is a very common way to use them, and it is important to buy the right oil...never use burner oil on skin and visa versa, although some oils are now adaptable for both.

Bathing with essential oils is a revitalising experience, and those that have not discovered the wonderful benefits and attributes of the oils are definately missing out!

Pricing of oil depends a lot on quality....with essential oils the old saying goes..."you only get what you pay for."

The cheaper oils are made up of perhaps about 2 to 3 drops of pure oil and the rest being a 'carrier' oil. A carrier oil is exactly that, it c
arries the essential oil and dilutes it, it is a bit like adding water to cordial. A more expensive oil of around £20.00 will be more pure, and, although this may seem expensive, the more expensive oils are more economical at the end of the day , because you can use them to make up your own mixes with carrier oil and also you need to use very, very little to create your own product.

Here are some qualities of some of the more widely used essentail oils:

Lavender :This is perhaps one of the most widely used and adaptable oils it is very useful for a lot of ailments including headaches (a few drops on your pillow), helps prevent scarring, Burns, antidepressant, sedative, Wounds, it is very relaxing and moisturizing, A good antiseptic,Eczema, Tension, Insomnia, Asthma, Rheumatism, Arthritis,Dermatitis and other skin conditions.

Aniseed : very good for Coughs, Bronchitis, Catarrh, and other chest related viruses.

Basil: A very good all rounder like lavener!!! Helps with Bronchitis, Fatigue (both physical and mental), Concentration loss, Migraine, General Aches & Pains,Depression,Nausea and Nervous Tension.

Chamomile: Acne, Sleeping problems, Menstrual Problems, Dermatitis, Migraine,Inflammatory Diseases, Burns, Neuralgia, Insomnia.

Cinnamon: , Circulatory system and Heart, Digestive system, Respiratory Stimulant, and an Aphrodisiac!!!

Evening Primrose Oil: Helps with PMT and menopausal problems, some heart diseases, psoriasis and eczema, and can help with premature ageing!!!

Jasmine: Depression and Nervousness, Menstrual Problems and Anxiety.

Olive Oil: rheumatic and arthritic conditions, soothes 10% a good source of protein and vitamins, and is very good for hair and scalp.

Tea Tree oil: antibacterial, Antiseptic, Colds, anti-viral, Flu, Cold Sores,Verrucas, Inflammation, Acne, Burns and is known to help with shock too.

Of course these are just a few
examples of what a few oils can do from a vast range!!! Definately worth a try!

Well done on this great opinion and receiving your crown. I attended a short course through college on aromatherpy. It was only a 6 week course but was very interesting. I did get quite a lot of knowledge in this short term and reaped the benefits of aromatherpy also.
