Advantages: A good all round moisturising cream.

Disadvantages: none

Astral moisturising cream seems to have been on the chemists shelves since the wheel was invented! Then I take a look and find out that it was first launched in 1950, but the creams formula has remained unchanged in all those years.
I have been buying Astral cream for light years but I can only ever remember it being in the aqua blue plastic tub.
There used to be an Astral soap on the market too but I haven't seen that about for ages now.
Astral cream contains glycerin, lanolin and perfume and it has been dermatologically tested and is not tested on any animals.
You can buy Astral cream in three different sized pots, 50ml, 200ml and 500ml. The cream can be used as an all over moisturiser.

I suppose that many women might look on Astral cream as being a bit old fashioned, the creams that appear in the magazines, newspapers and on supermarket and chemist shelves nowadays are so much more sophisticated.
Astral and Nivea have been lifelong favourites of mine, both creams are affordable and effective.

When you open the tub of Astral cream and remove the inner foil lid the perfumed cream smells really strong. The perfume is a favourite smell of mine but those with sensitive skin may think that the cream would be far too strong for them.
Astral cream is pure white and thickly whipped. As you load your fingertips with the cream you will notice that it is quite greasy, I have dry skin so this appeals to me.
During the colder weather I always seem to end up with rough skin on my elbows and knees but a few applications of Astral soon smooths it out.
I not only use Astral as a moisturiser but I use it to remove my make up too, it certainly isn't expensive so you don't feel extravagant if you apply it liberally.
Astral cream is a good emollient and contains next to no chemicals so the chances of it irritating your skin are low.

A magazine article I recently read was interviewing the stars and many of them admitted that they paid hundreds of pounds for their skin creams, but Joanna Lumley said that she had used nothing else but Astral for nearly fifty years!

When you first apply the cream to your face and neck it does seem to leave it greasy, but after a few minutes the greasy part sinks into the skin and nourishes it. After that you are free to apply your make up as you wish.
You will notice that your skin smells really pleasant.

Astral may not be the up to the minute lotion and potion favoured by the rich and famous, but it is affordable and suits sensitive skin.
It feels creamy and smells lovely and I have used it for years!
A 200 ml tub works out at around £2.99, great value when you put it up against some of the other moisturisers.

Summary: Good value, it works well and is fine for sensitive skin.

My Mum-in-Law gave me a pot of this recently, but I haven't started it yet. If it's good enough for her-Joanne-Lumley-ness, it's certainly good enough for me! Caroline xx
