... kept giving away with the trapped nerve. Hmmm. I could not go to work it this state so I made an immediate appointment with the local casualty department as directed by our healthline and duely sought out the doctor on duty. One look told her I had pulled the muscles in my lower back and trapped the sciatic nerve. This could cause quite intense pain she said. NO KIDDING thinks I. She gives me so many packs of pills that I am now swimming in some kind of la la land and finding staying awake the bigger problem at the...more

Premium Review Back Pain: Back to the pills (906 words)
by - written on 19/01/09 (Very useful, 52 readings)
Rating:

I thought after having Gall stones out some years ago that I would never see another pain like it ever again, HOW WRONG I was! Recently I had a mishap with my lower back and have been in torment with it eversince. I managed to put my back into muscular strain and trapped a nerve down one leg in the process. HOW did I do this I hear you ask? Well I was shovelling coal into my fire with a tiny shovel used for this purpose and then heard this click like crunching noise and then I just couldn't straighten up. Looking at the wall in front of me at a very perculiary angle and wondering what the beeping noises coming out of mouth I was going to do ...  Read the complete review

Back pain is something that affects many of us at various points in our lives and some of us for longer than others. The medical community claim 80% of back problems have no known cause and this irritates me because if there was no cause then it wouldn't have happened! That statement is purely because 80% of patients with back pain do not have structural problems but do have mechanical problems. Structural problems would involve slipping of discs or verterbrae, narrowing of the spinal canal etc and mechanical problems involve bad posture, muscle imbalances, weak core etc. Most people nowadays have postural issues from sitting badly or too long, standing in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Back Pain: BLUDDY FRAUD !!! (2579 words)

Back pain? C'mon let's be sensible about this condition. Agreed, this can be a real problem that afflicts so many people ? particularly those of the same or similar vintage to Sidneygee. There are, quite simply, two aspects to be considered ? prevention and 'cure'. Now there are a number of publications that can be obtained on back-pain, and I have no intention of reproducing them here. This review comes from my personal experience and, I will warn you, is largely anecdotal. I am going to deal only with two of the commonly described back problems that can be suffered, because that is where my experience ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pain in the neck...er...back (923 words)

As I work in the Health Service you can imagine the regulations we are placed under to protect our backs. Nevertheless, back injuries remain a major cause of sickness and early retirement or disability in the NHS today. As a student I have had approximately 6 manual handling updates in the last two and a half years. Despite this I still managed to put my back out at work last week. (August 2002) Having filled out an accident form I am now being pursued by the Occupational Health Nurse but to tell you the truth will be glad for a chat when I see her tommorow as ten days later I am still in pain. Back pain itself is an annoyance as it spreads up into ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Back Pain: Exercise Your Back (577 words)
by - written on 20/10/02 (Very useful, 506 readings)
Rating:

If you ever have, or are suffering from back strain or sciatica (as I sometimes do) then the following exercises I got from my doctor can help ease the pain. The McKenzie Exercises are said to strengthen the back muscles in time, thus reducing the chance of having to suffer the agony. EXERCISE 1 Lie face down with your arms beside your body and your head turned to one side. Stay in this position for about 5 minutes, making sure that you relax completely. EXERCISE 2 Remain face down, but now place your hands in the position you would adopt for "press-ups". Press the top half of your body as far as the pain will allow, ...  Read the complete review
