Advantages: Bags of choice
Disadvantages: Can become a fetish!
I confess, I'm a bag lady! I mean to say, I own at least six bags that are in new condition and a cupboard full of old ones that I can't throw away. There are leather ones (my favourite), cloth ones, plastic ones, canvass and even straw!
How many bags do you own? Go on, be truthful. How many of those are old and no longer fashionable, or just plain worn out?
You can't have too many bags. There are so many different types and styles. Utility bags are a must and then there's the fashion sort and the formal sort and then you have to have all those different colours.
Below you will find a definitive guide to bags as fashion accessories and essentials.
RUCKSACKS AND BACKPACKS:
These come in many different sizes and colours and are perfect for cramming loads of stuff into. Ideal for camping trips, walking holidays, weekends and moving digs. The most important thing about these is to make sure you don't get one that will be too heavy to carry when its full! ( I speak from experience.) The other thing to consider is whether its important to your street cred that you have the right logo on your bag. This can make all the difference when it comes to price.
A4 SIZED BAG WITH SHOULDER STRAP:
Ideal for all your pens, pencils, pads, files, etc. You can also keep your makeup, cash, credit cards, etc safe in here. Get one with a seperate zip pocket for your cash and cards. It makes life so much easier. I don't think image is so important here as this a distinctly practical item. I opted for plain black with a few silvery studs. However, if you have an image to maintain you will have to do a lot of searching around to find something this practical with a designer tag.
A GOOD SIZED HOLDALL:
This is a must as its so easy to pack if you want to take off to the sun, or snow! Get a good strong one with decent zips. I actually managed to find one with zips that you can lock. This
is perfect when travelling abroad. Mine only cost me £9.99 and its made of very strong nylon and cotton. It actually looks much more expensive as it is dark green with brown trims and strap. (This actually came from a market.)
You can't ever have too many of these. You needs formal ones, fun ones, club type ones and of course you need lots of colours and textures. most of the bags in my collection fall in this category.
The above types of bag are what I find most useful but the serious bag lady can find a whole range of utility bags to collect. There are shoe bags, peg bags, lavendar bags, sports bags and even teabags (LOL) for the avid collector.
WHERE TO BUY:
Kookai is my favourite place but i can't afford it in here very often.
River Island have a good range but it depends very much on the season. Last summer they had lots of straw and canvas ones in and they aren't really suitable if you like a more formal style of bag.
C&A were one of my favourites but, alas, they are no more!
Salisburys have a good range but these are mostly suitable for older women even though they do try to make themselves look trendy.
Dolcis always have the latest fashion bags and shoes to match. If I am looking for shoes and bag for a special ocassion I always go here.
Finally, don't forget to look round in markets. You won't get designer labels (not often anyway) but you might just be lucky.
