As a beekeeper I am constantly amazed by just how versatile this wonderful substance is. Bees collect propolis form chestnut trees and use it as an airtight glue to seal their living spaces. As a beekeeper it is propolis that keeps the sections of hive together and means I need a hive tool to prise them apart. I frequently scrape propolis off for my own personal use. As has been mentioned propolis is an analgesic and I use it in a ticture made with alcohol to soothe sore throats. I find that a drop or two of propolis can see of a sore throat in no time and I know that it is done entirely naturally. Propolis is so versatile and is available in so many forms, I have sold some in the past to a violin maker who uses it in the coating of the wood. If you get a chance buy some of it in it's natural state and experiment with it.
