Advantages: Self expression, look good if kept clean.

Disadvantages: Can get ruff if you don't look after them. There are possible risks.

I think that body piercing and tatooing are a good form of self expression. As long as you think of what your doing before hand. Obviously you don't wanna have a spur of the moment kind of tattoo, that was supposed to look like a dainty butterfly, but looks like a map of china on your ass forever, so make sure you know what you want and go to a reputable tattooist/piercer.Try and get other peoples opinions before and ask lots of questions when you book it so that you can make a more informed decision.

You see all these films of scared looking teens going into the tattoo parlour only to see a huge man resembling Wortzel Gummage emerge from behind the curtain. With his only form of communication was to grunt. Well, if you actually go through with your mutilation by this man then i'd have to say you'd be quite dumb! When you get the body adornment you should make sure the professional knows exactly what you want, and make sure you know whats gonna happen, like if theres gonna be a lot of blood or when your gonna hear that huge crunch of your cartilidge( it does happen).

Ask the professional how to look after your piercing and if needs be , get them to demonstrate, this will make it less likely to go septic or close up. Once you've had the piercing/tatoo for a while you can slack off a bit on the cleaning, but still make sure you wipe it with salt water or whatevers recomende at least three times a week to keep way the icky germs. It may sound over the top but i'm a student and i'm not gonna waste 25 quid by letting my piercing close over or get infected to the point that i have to take it out.

Piercings and tattoos do look good when they are in top condition. Scabs, bruising and redness is never a good look!
I have ear piercings and a lip piercing and they've been fine since i had them done. You do always get people telling you of a friend of a friend who had their face paralysed by a piercing, but ha
ve you actually known anyone who's had it happen to them? I know i havn't.

Good and interesting op', i have had several piercings, one which has gone horribly wrong and i'm now left with pretty bad scarring, although this hasn't deterred me, i'm gettin it re-pierced once the scar tissue has had a long rest and time to recover and heal as much as it can, although i had my tragus pierced recently after to compensate. I totally agree with what you have said, a lot of un-educated and very much stereotypical people are too quick to point the finger and tarr you with the same brush if they come across somthing a lil different from what they are used to, this is not everyone but a lot of people who can't accept others eccentricity and expression. I think that as long as its your own choice and you get as much info before hand about the proceedure and aftercare everything will hopefully be fine. (i say hopefully as i did all this and my piercing still migrated!!! You can find out more if you go onto my name and find the thing i wrote about regretting)

I have a few body piercings and think the World of them. I believe they are an artistic and studenty expression in my case. Everyone has their reasons for getting a piercing. None of my piercings have ever gone septic. Some folk esp the older generation will tell you horror stories simply to put you off. Like I believe em...:-))
