Advantages: looks nice, loads of really nice jewellery available now
Disadvantages: infections,growing out.
i had my ears pierced from a very young age which i dont really remember much about, but im glad i had them done. i went on to pierce my own nose with a sterilised needle in my rebel teenage years(not that long ago). now this i would not suggest anybody tries at home ,not only is it dodgy because of the risk of infection but it took ages and bl**dy hurt. i only had it in for about a week until the day a few of my friends and i were together and i sneezed, nose stud turns misile, flew out never to be seen again.it was entertaining and we still laugh about it now. i pierced the second holes in my ears with a needle.they turned out fine.i think most teenagers at some point turn to their own method of piercing at some time or another. ive had my navel pierced, this is a little painful and costs about £30. most body piercing shops will mark your navel with a pen to line up where they are going to pierce you. they spray a solution on your belly button to slightly numb the area. i actually think that the worst part of this is where they put a clamp just above your belly button to pinch the skin up so they can pass the rod through. 'clamp'sounds a bit scary, what i mean is a tool that resembles a pair of scissors but with small blunt ends to hold your skin... then the piercing tool is passed through, this doesnt feel too bad. a lot of shops put a large surgical steel bar through the navel with a ball at each end. this looks a bit ugly at first but allows for any swelling. salt water is a good solution for cleansing along with twisting the bar. i actually used 'savlon spray'which meant i didnt have to touch my piercing too much as it was easy to direct. i would say that you should try and wear low cut trousers as it can be very painful if you catch your navel. wait until your piercing has healed completely before you try changing it for a different style of jewellery. i warn you that navel pier
cings can grow out, mine did. this basically means that the skin can become thin over the actually belly ring itself and also the piercing can become shorter in length. i had to wait for my piercing to heal over before having it done again.it did hurt more the second time round as the piercing was going through scar tissue. on the whole though there is some fantastic navel jewellery out there so im glad ive got mine!
