Advantages: looks fab, relatively painless, feels good
Disadvantages: discomfort for a week
I had my tongue pierced just over a week ago and yes I know its a little early for giving my full opinion however if my opinion on it changes I'll update this in due course.
I'd been interested in having my tongue pierced for ages now, I always thought it looked cool and its a bit different than the usual bellybutton or nose. so i decided that as a treat for myself after my A Levels I would go and get my tongue pierced. I told my parents and they were set against it but I decided myself that I was still going to get it done because it is my body and my money.
I spent a lot of time researching it by asking various people who had had it done about their experiences and also on the internet on the various websites with experiences and reccomendations and details of the procedure etc. and then i decided that i was still going to do it, I also made out a list of what to look for at the piercing studio (hygiene wise etc) and also about what to eat and stuff whilst it was healing.
So on the day of the piercing i took my friend who had had it done previously and we went to a studio that she recommended. the place was very clean and the piercer lady was very friendly. I filled in some forms and then she sprayed on some stuff to numb my tongue, i then rinsed this out and rinsed again with mouthwash. I sat back down again and she placed a small clamp on my tonuge and showed me the needle coming out of the pack to show it was unused. Obviously I couldnt see much of the needle going through my tongue but seriously it like took a couple of seconds and truthfully it did not hurt at all because my tongue was so numb. AFter this she screwed on the barbell which was rather large to accomodate the swelling which would occur for the first week. I then rinsed my mouth again because there was a little blood and paid her the £25 and left after being told to return in a week to change my barbell for a smaller one.
During the next week my to
ngue swelled up quite a lot and i couldnt talk at all really much to the amusement of my friends, I also couldnt eat a lot except soup and mashed up vegetables, so that was rather annoying but i decided it would still be worth it after a week. I also had to take a few effervescent cocodamols a day to try and relieve the pain from the swelling, these helped quite a bit but by the 5th day I didnt really need to take them. I still decided that I loved my new tongue piercing and I loved to play with it in my mouth.
Today was the 6th day and altho I was meant to wait 7 days for the swelling to go down my mum said it was fine and we could go back to get my barbell changed today, this was also extremely painless and now I'm very pleased with my new tongue and I think I'll enjoy it for a long while to come.
