Advantages: Looks pretty

Disadvantages: price, painful for a few days

After having three children you'd think the last thing i'd want to show off is my midriff, well you'd be mistaken, in fact i'm rather proud of my tummy actually. I have a rather flat, flab free, and stretch mark free tum. I am 5 foot 9in, weigh 9 stone, and am a size 10, and have three daughters age 11, 7 and 19 months old.

I had always loved the look of the belly button piercings, but was put off some 6yrs ago when a work friend of mine had hers done. She had it done on a market stall, with no anaesthetic or after care advice, she also kept it covered up as her parents would of gone mad at her. In the end she ended up having to have it removed at A&E because it had disappeared inside of her stomach. She was then put on antibiotics and was in pain for quite a while, so as you can imagine I was put off.

But then last year my cousin had her's done with no pain, and no trouble afterwards.

So with this in mind I decided to go for it, and in February this year I did just so. I thought i'd have it done early spring so that when it came to the summer it would be all healed and ready to flash about!I had it done on a Saturday morning as I had a relatives birthday party on the evening and thought it would be good to show off, and also shock my mom!!!

I decided to go to the same place that my cousin went to as I knew that it was a good place. The shop was called Emily Dangley Bit's, an accesories shop like Claires and is situated in Halesowen town centre.

I went to the counter to enquire about prices and I asked the girl loads of questions like if she had had her's done, if it hurt, how long it took to heal, if she had any problems, the list was endless, can you tell I was a nervous wreck!

She showed me a selection of bars to choose from and decided to go for a silver bar with a diamond type ball on each end,but the price was just over 50 pound so decided not to go for that one and wen
t for the plain silver bar which was 26 pound including the piecing it'self. I then paid the assistant and waited for the piercer to finish with the a customer she was with.

Then the door opened, my stomach then started to churn over, and out walked a blonde, pretty, but rather butch looking woman wearing a nurse type outfit. The customer she had with her had just had her belly button too, and seemed quite happy, there were no tears and was rather jolly so this helped to put me at ease.

I then went with the assistant to the back room which was very clinical, very much like a dentist's surgery. The woman then cleaned her hands and put on her new latex gloves. I then had to stand in front of the mirror to be marked up for where I wanted the incision to be made, I then took off my shoes and lay down on the bed. She then bought out a little dish containing needle, swaps the bar etc. She then put me at ease by talking and asking me about my day, just general chit chat really anything to try and take my mind off what she was about to do to me.

She then got a little bottle of liquid anaesthetic and squirted it all over my belly, and straight away it took effect. She then showed me all the packages being opened so I knew that they were all clean, and had'nt been tampered with. She then went ahead and made the incision just above the navel and came out just inside above the navel under the little flap of skin. It took all of 2 seconds to do and I felt nothing, nothing at all, and it left me thinking what all the fuss was about.

I then stood up and went to the mirror to admire my new belly, and was well impressed, the result was great. I then started to shake from shock as I could'nt believe I had actually done it.

She then put a dressing on and was told to leave it on until I got home. I was then given a leaflet to sign to say I had given her permission to do it and she went through all the things I had
to do to keep it clean.

1) clean it for 6 weeks twice a day
2) Use bolied water and salt.
3) make sure the water is boiled in a saucepan and not a kettle.
4)Use one cup of boiled water to one teaspoon of salt.
5) dont have bubbles in the bath, and dont use soaps on it.
6) Leave it to heal for 6 months.
7) twist the piercing a few times a day to save it sticking. I recommend you do this in the bath.

She did give me a leaflet to remind me of all this, said at anytime I could go back if I had any problems, and she would clean it for me, and also after 6 months she would change my bar if I was worried about doing it for myself.

Once the anaesthetic had worn off it was rather tender, and found I could'nt bend too well. I was also scarred my daughter would catch it, or pull it out, but I was fine.

I got round to buying a pretty new bar in August, it was 6 pound and was a sliver bar with a pretty pink diamond look ball on each end. I also braved changing it myself which was simple. I had worried i'd lose the hole and would'nt get it in, but it was fine.

The piercing does weep a little, but not much more than your ears do when you leave earrings in at all times.

I cleared my tummy just the once a day for two weeks and had a bath every day to keep it clean, and to this day ive have had no trouble at all with it.

So if you are having worries about having one done, ask around first, find someone else who has had it done and ask if they recommend anywhere!

Then go out and enjoy flashing your belly off for the world to see.

Okay, that first paragraph is just gloating - I'm so jealous!! :o) Only kidding! I didn't even manage to keep my ears pierced, so I don't think this is for me!

That was very interesting, but I don't fancy it myself. Just as well, no-one would want to see my tummy which HAS got flab & stretchmarks, after having 4 kids in 5 1/2 years!!
