Advantages: I love them.

Disadvantages: Dont be hasty....this is for life.

I love tattoos.
I envy people who are brave enough to have lots of visible ones.
Unfortunatly, I know that if I got anything very big, or in an easily visible space, I would get bored of them.

I have 3.

I got my first one when I was 15. It was partly rebellion, but mostly it was something I had always been interested in, and always wanted to do.

I thought about it for ages. Tattooing isnt something you want to do lightly. This is something you will have with you for the rest of your life....so I suggest not getting cartoon characters, band names, etc..

My first tattoo was a cross on the top of my spine, just underneath my neck.
I took an already existing tattoo design, and changed it to suit me.

I dont remember it hurting, but people do say that tattooing is somewhat like childbirth. Hurts like hell at the time, but that seems insignificant afterward.

My second tattoo is the one thats the most important to me. It was slightly reckless of me, but fortunatly everything worked out ok.

I have always been interested in symbology and magic, and wanted a symbol that represented strength. Something I needed at the time.

I drew this tattoo myself, with the help of a few symbology/magic text books.

I was 18 when I had this done.

My tattoo consists of a pentagram in a circle, with my other halfs initials at the top, and my two best girlfriends initials at the bottom, to form a triangle.

So yes. Risky with the initials....but it felt right at the time. I drew strength from those three people. They helped me through a lot.
I had their initials tattooed in greek. I didnt like the idea of the initials being immediatly recognisable. Its like a secret.

Whilst I am not so close to my two old bestfriends, I dont regret my tattoo whatsoever. It reminds me of a difficult time, and people who helped me tremendously.
Fortunatly, me and my fella are still tight, and I will never regret having his initials tattooed on my body.He kind of belongs there. If it werent for him, I wouldnt have had the strength to get through my difficult times.

There are many of different meanings, historically, to the pentagram. Its not just for virgin sacrifices ;)

For me it stands for perfection, eternity, truth, and female empowerment.

My last tattoo is a small celtic butterfly, on my ankle. This is another tattoo I reworked. The butterfly is slightly spiky, slightly edgy. I wanted it to look like a butterfly trapped in thorns. strength in adversity and all that.

I really want another tattoo, but I am waiting for a reason. Whilst I respect people getting tattooed for pleasure alone, or because its art, I need to have a reason. That way, when I look back, I know my motivations, know why its there.
I think thats the only way I wont get bored.

Always look for a reputable tattoo artist. You dont want these things going wrong.
Look after your tattoo afterward, and for christs sake dont pick at it.

Summary: My tattoos, and why.
