Cerebral Palsy

Description: The words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means ... more
Cerebral Palsy ... anything in the head and palsy refers to anything wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. If someone has cerebral palsy it means that because of an injury to their brain (that's the cerebral part) they are not able to use some of the muscles in their body in the normal way (that's the palsy part). Children who have cerebral palsy, or CP, may not be able to walk, talk, eat or play in the same ways as most other kids. It is important to know that CP is not a disease or illness. It isn't contagious and it doesn't get worse, but it is not something you "grow out of." Children who have CP will have it all their lives.

My friend Kerry has mild cerebral palsy, yet it hasn't stopped her from getting married and having a gorgeous baby, called Peter. Peter is now 6 months old. I only met Kerry last January, so I knew nothing about cerebral palsy, except that the people had twisted limbs and roving eyes (nystagmus). But I was in for a shock of my own. In May 2000 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, called Emma. Since I am disabled myself I had her by C-section 10 days before she was due. Although she was not technically premature, Emma had several problems at birth. She couldn't see, she had a open heart duct and a hole in her heart. As she got ...  Read the complete review

Birth and Operations... Deep breath. I have cerebral palsy. I have cerebral palsy because I was born too fast, being the nosy bugger that I am , I just couldn't wait, I'd already missed half the seventees and wasn't gonna hang around. No seriously I was two months premature and weighed just 3lb. I developed cerebral palsy (CP) because I inhaled too much oxygen and part of my brain just popped. The doctors thought I had clicked hips up until I was two or so, then they realised it was more than that. The prognosis wasn't good, according to the doctor I would: Never be able to walk. Never be able to talk. ...  Read the complete review
