Advantages: You'll be one of the gang! Positive mental attitude so things may actually get better, lots of colours and choice

Disadvantages: Expensive for what they are, can be tacky

Power beads...hmmmm? I used to have similar bracelets when I was 5 and it was kinda the thing to have dodgy pink beads round your wrist, so I have to admit to being very concerned when I saw them popping up all over the high street. The theory is that these beads have different strengths depending on the colour and style, and so you choose the right beads for you, be it happiness, anti stress, fertility, love, money, whatever you can probably find it somewhere in the shops, you then wear them and hey presto life will be so much better. Now I have a background in psychology and it sounds to me like a case of "The placebo effect", that basically you think life will get better, so it usually does, even though there is actually nothing changing apart from your way of thinking.

I was actually bought some beads for anti stress in my exams and as soon as i put them on I did feel strangely optimistic, however, I am not so naive as to expect them to have actually changed my life at all, I appreciate that it was me and my way of thinking that had changed. I actually am of the way of thinking that anything that helps people to get the most out of life is great and if wearing beads round the wrist under the belief that it will do you some good does actually help, then great! I think there are much more harmful things to worry about. However, my area of concern is the vast amount of money that are being charged for these beads under the illusion that they have "magical powers". In Claires accessories, M&S they are around £5, whereas in Topshop about £3.50.I even found some in a department store that were around £20, claiming to have been blessed by someone...hmmm someone running all the way to the bank I think! In M&S they are actually glass beads which makes them more attractive and a far better purchase I feel for the money, so if you have to splash out money on these, there are some that are better than others as ever and it is best to shop aro
und.

Ultimately, i do feel though if you have to splash out money on beads in the hope that life will get better or something will change then it really is a bit sad and i think there are far better ways of making things happen.

I love my beads and have worn them most days since I got them, but i wore them because I liked them and not because I thought they would change my life. I am not actually knocking the beads, just the reliance that some people may have on them!

I feel that the real gemstones are far nicer than glass, although this can be pretty too, I get gemstones wholesale and I wear a dalmatian jasper and leopardskin jasper bracelet everyday, and I adore them, they haven't changed my life but boy, are they beautiful and I think the real gemstone ones won't be outta fashion like the gladd cheapies and fakes. oh and they didn'tcost those prices either, but then I do make them myself from wholesale beads!!! Enjoy them
