Disadvantages: Wrong place!
I do not know a thing about Chinese medicine, I cannot find a category for Pepto Bismol and I have only 4 minutes left for my internet viewing …. Going down ….
Usually I pride myself on being a very healthy person, I can go for years without having vomited (if that kind of thing turns your stomach you may have to leave early!), however this year and last it all turned around and caught up with me!
The first time I used Pepto Bismol was last year, I had been feeling rough all day but stuck it out at school, knowing that if I returned home I wouldn’t be able to attend the Christmas lighting in town. I think Dr Ramsden of Coronation Street hosted it this year, previously it was Beppe Dimarco of Eastenders. Perhaps I had left it too late to suddenly take a dose of this –according to my age it is 20ml- because my stomach flipped over and emptied into the sink, thank god for that. So that’s blown my night in town! Off trundles all my mates for their girlie night and I have to sit at home alone! Boohoo poor Roxie. So that didn’t quite work!
Since then I’ve been safe, I’m not one to be sick when drinking so its not often I am subjected to it. Until last Friday.
Now I have apparently been in disgrace recently and I have lost the trust of my parents, (I am blaming this on the man of my mother, who no longer has a name). So they are reluctant to leave me alone, as it happens Sarah was with me too and she would be the most responsible girl in the world..that I know of anyway! Swallowing their tongues my parents leave to go and watch Johnny English, instantly Sarah and I take to stuffing our faces, I hadn’t been eating that week and so I was extremely hungry.
Pizza, Toast, Yoghurt, Flapjack, Pancakes, Cola.
As soon as I felt the unfortunately familiar queasiness I took some Pepto and once again it didn’t work!
Mother and ‘Him’ return home and he is now trying to fo
rce me to do the washing up, it is around 11 o’clock at night and my stomach is tieing knots, I cannot move from my position on the stairs to the kitchen. There is not shed-loads of washing-up, it can wait until morning, but oh no it can’t! So of course Roxie splashes onto the stairs! Well… onto about 4 stairs worth!
I have no idea where so much came from, I’m sure I didn’t eat THAT much! The smell is unbearable but still I drag myself down the stairs and do the washing up before collapsing into my bed. Responsible Sarah is now paranoid that she too will be ill and calls her mum at 12.30am (I’m sure she was not pleased) and returns home. Once again, Roxie is in disgrace.
It is now hmm about 5 days later and despite large quantities of febreze and the highest level of air freshener the stench refuses to die! Another question, Does Febreze work?
Pepto Bismol is a shocking pink thick liquid it can be bought in very large amounts. A dosing cup is provided and I have to take 20ml, you lot all have to suffer with 30ml. Pepto is up there with the foul medicines, it smells extremely strongly of Germolene, the -also pink- cream used to treat cuts and sores. The taste is kind of chalky and refuses to leave the depths of your mouth even when gallons of water has been drunk, I advise you not to drink it with flat cola!! There is no age limit to who can use it and the smallest dose is one 5ml teaspoon, lucky to the bugger who has to take it in such small quantities.
The worst thing is that because of its consistency you cant chuck it back and be done with it, it slides down your throat and you have to endure the horrid taste until all 20-30ml has been washed down. *Shudder*
Also known as Bismuth Subsalicylate (HA! As if I can pronounce that one) it boasts to relieve Indigestion and Nausea , symptoms I don’t suffer from, control diarrhoea, well don’t ask me?? Haven’t fallen victim to that since I
was about 7! And all importantly ‘Relieves Upset Stomach’ Well does it?? Does it really? I’m not so sure, I have used Pepto many a time and it has worked about 1/8 times.
It is supposed to line your stomach with a protective coating, but if you have stomach pains or feel ill in that area I suggest using Gaviscon, also a disgusting medicine but extremely effective in a minute space of time. What on earth happened to the days of Strawberry and Banana medicines? When I was hit with Impetigo I actually enjoyed taking that banana medicine!! Until it went all bitty and urgh…anyway! If I had any Gaviscon I’d do a review on that, but I don’t have any! Our 240ml (rapidly disappearing) Pepto Bismol costs between £2-3 depending on which supermarket or pharmacy you purchase it from.
