Advantages: GREAT VALUE, SUPERB RANGE OF PRODUCTS
Disadvantages: NONE FOR ME
I have always loved make-up and since an early age I would beg my mum to let me play with her lip sticks and glosses, nail polishes and powders. For the most part, she wouldn't let me as I was so young, but sometimes she would relent and paint, say, 3 out of my 10 fingernails! I remember thinking that this was really cool! :-o
My love affair with cosmetics has a tendency to drive my poor (long-suffering) other half up the wall. I have, at present, 12 bottles of assorted nail polishes and varnishes sitting just to the side of my PC screen, for example, so you can imagine the state of play with bottles and potions and creams in the bathroom!? He does love to point out to me that his little collection of stuff amounts to say, half a dozen bottles and sits in a neat little corner whereas I have stuff in just about every room, and lots of it too!
I first starting using Collection 2000 in the late 1990's, when I was on a very low income and didn't have much spare cash to play with. I always found that Collection 2000 cosmetics offered excellent value for money, whilst I didn't feel that there had been any compromise on the quality of their products. I still have the same opinion today, and I'd estimate that two or three of my 'staple' products (i.e. those that can always be found in my make-up bag, and are an absolute "must") are from the Collection 2000 range, and have been, for a number of years
What I liked most when I was on a strict budget in times gone by, was that I could get several items for, say a tenner, (perhaps a kohl pencil, a nail varnish, and a foundation) whereas with other brands, I'd find that I'd probably only get one item (or on a good day two) for the same price. If that's not proof of the good value of the range, then I don't know what is!
Another thing I like about the range is that if you buy a shade of eye shadow, or a nail polish only to return home with it, give it a try, and promptly decide it's not for you (or, is it only me who does this?), then at most you've probably forked out the sum of 3 or 4 quid. With other ranges/collections that I use on a regular basis (Revlon, Avon, etc) I'd probably have spent double that! That said, I'm quite selective about make-up, and always test it beforehand if I can, but from time to time I've liked something in the shop and hated it when I've applied it to my own wee face! :-o
There are fairly regular bargains and deals to be had at the Collection 2000 counter in Superdrug (I think there is one in Boots too, but not 100% sure as I hate Boots and wouldn't shop there unless I really HAD to!) for example, choose a free nail polish, if you spend a tenner on their eye make-up, that sort of thing. This makes it very hard for me to resist though, even if I've only been looking for an eyeliner pencil or whatever I'll probably end up buying the make-up, and getting the 'free' nail polish and heading home clutching my little Superdrug bag and feeling rather proud of myself for finding that 'great' bargain! (Sigh....!)
One of the 'staples' I mentioned earlier in my review is the "3 in 1 foundation". I have used this for over five years as I can't find anything that comes close to this product. You see, my skin tone is very fair, and a lot of powders, foundations, concealers etc are just far too dark for me... I'm afraid there have been enough incidents of me ending up looking like something from a "Tango" advert to know this is fact.
The 3 in 1 foundation, therefore, is perfect as it is very pale and light-coloured, thus matching my pale skin tones much better than other products I have tried. The product comes in a compact, with a little mirror in the lid, and a small applicator sponge to apply it with. The texture of the product feels like powder if you dip your finger into it, not 'loose' powder though, I mean the 'pressed' kind.
When the product is applied to my skin, it not only acts as a concealer and does a not-too-bad job of covering blemishes and imperfections (and there are a few!), but acts as a nice (and very light to wear) creamy/powder combination on your skin. I find that some foundations and powders can feel very heavy on your skin, whereas this one is very light.
I personally prefer to put concealer on underneath this product, dabbing it around my face, then apply the 3 in 1 foundation, blending properly, then finish off with a quick dab of blusher or darker powder across my cheekbones. Whilst I wouldn't wear make-up as light as this on a night out, for an everyday look I find that it is ok for me, and I don't end up looking TOO made-up when I don't want to be.
In case you are interested in trying it, the 3 in 1 foundation costs around £6, and is available from larger Tesco stores, and Superdrug. It comes in a range of shades, so would possibly suit other skin tones, as well as overly-pale ones (like mine!).
Other items in the collection 2000 range include eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, kohl pencils, nail polish, concealer, liquid foundation and blushers. I know there are other items too, but I'm just listing what collection 2000 products are in my make-up bag at the moment
All in all, I find the collection 2000 range offers great value for money, and have a fantastic range that is on a par with other brands of cosmetics, whilst not compromising the quality of their products.
Summary: A great range of quality cosmetics at a low price! :-D
