Advantages: cheers you up

Disadvantages: none really. but expensive

Get out your rose tinted spectacles and you are sure to see the world in a different light.

Colour therapy uses the coours of the spectrum to prevent and treat physical, emotional and psychological ill health. (That's what devotees will tell you,anyway).

How does it work?
+++++++++++++++++

The vibrating energy of the electromagnetic waves coming from light rays can alter the human body. The theory is that our bodies emit an energy field, or 'aura', which reflects all aspects of our being.

My own personal experience of this treatment is that certain colours did infact seem to make me feel better. However, therapists do claim to be able to influence certain medical conditions by using specially selected colours. I am not sufficiently convinced about this to be able offer this treament within my own practise.

Having said that, I do believe that colours influence peoples moods and that the correct colours can lift the spirits and create a sense of well-being. Bright yellows and reds, for example, are stimulating and invigourating, while pink is soothing and calming.

What happens during a treatment?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The first time you see a colour therapist it will take a couple of hours for you to reveal absolutely everything about yourself. You need to describe your emotions, feelings, personality, lifestyle, and all your other secrets. (Very personal details here.)

Next you need to choose your favourite colours from colour cards. One colour is selected as the main one and then others are put with it ti increase the 'healing therapy'.

Therapy can be given using coloured scarves, water, light or even crystals. Light may be applied to the chakras and you may be told to eat foods of certain colours and to wear clothes in those colours.

What does it cost?
++++++++++++++++++

The first 2 hour session I had cost me forty
pounds and follow up if I'd decided to have then would have been eighteen pounds a time.

Verdict.
+++++++++

I must admit that I did find that I reponded better to some colours. For instance a mercurial, yellowy-green t-shirt made me feel depressed and sluggish but a bright orange one had the opposite effect.

The old saying 'seeing the world through rose tinted glasses', refers to a better picture of things because of their colour.

There are lots of other references to colour in folklore:

Seeing red,

Feeling blue,

Giving a black look,

Being green with envy,

It seems that colours do affect us in very subtle ways.

I can't find any evidence for colour therapy being effective in treating physical complaints, but there isn't any doubt that colour does affect us.

I would recommend that if you want to try this out you consult a therapist once, if you can afford it, and then use the information to treat yourself. Alternatively, buy a book and experiment.

typo in 2nd line "coours" and in the What Happens section "others are put with it ti increase" This is an older review, and you may not want to bother with it... it's almost compulsory for me to note such things though lol.

Interesting review here. I hadn't realized that people actually consulted "therapists" for this! lol There are so many useful resources out there to educate yourself, and it isn't rocket science after all, that I guess it just never occurred to me. I should know better though. I started out in LA, the land of nuts and flakes, where people consult psychics to communicate with their pets!

I have found that using a little colour therapy in my day to day life has been very useful. Like you, I'm not sure how effective it is in combatting medical conditions, but it is very true that humans are capable of amazing healing when they believe it is possible. Can't stand rose coloured glasses though! Makes me angry and gives me a headache, so I have a pair of blue sky glasses instead.

..
U wishing you laughter

I'd heard of colour therapy but never really knew what it was all about. I quite like to try this sort of thing once just to see what it's like. Where did you go to do this?
