Complementary/Natural Health in general

Newest Review: ... or in dietary supplements. Supplements, which usually come in pill form and around which so much controversy has arisen, are still just food substances, and unless synthetic, are also derived from living plants and animals. It is impossible to sustain life without all the essential vitamins. A lot of people think that they can replace food. They cannot. In fact, vitamins cannot be assimilated without ingesting food. There are a lot of erroneous beliefs about vitamins. and I hope I can clear up most of them. - Vitamins are not pep pills and have not caloric or energy value of their own. - Vitamins are not substitutes for protein or for any ... more

When you hear the word "vitamins," most people think "pill." "Thinking pill" brings to mind confusing images of medicine and drugs. Though vitamins can and certainly often do the work of both medicine and drugs, they are neither. Quite simply, vitamins are organic substances necessary for life. Vitamins are essential to the normal functioning of our bodies and, save for a few exceptions, cannot be manufactured or synthesized by our bodies. They are necessary for our growth, vitality, and general well-being. In their natural state they are found in minute quantities in all organic food. We must obtain them from these foods or in ...  Read the complete review

I am very sceptical about 'natural' remedies, and only tried this one because the condition isn't bad enough to get help from my GP.I have a network of small varicose veins on the fronts of my legs, not bad enough for surgery, but rather noticeable and disfiguring.I have been disguising them with makeup. My GP explained that at this stage not much can be done apart from general care and exercise. Then I read in a women's magazine a report by the natural health guru Michael Stratton, saying that a dermatologist had remarkable results with a cream made in the Netherlands called V-nal. None of the chemists where I asked had heard of it, so I used the ...  Read the complete review

I had a strong opinion in me that was bursting to get out. The problem is I couldn't find a category in which to post it for it is far too general. I thus chose this health category as my op does in a way relate to mental health. If there is a better cat for it please inform me. Here it goes: I am now at the adult wannabe age where I start devising my own philosophies in life. Where I develop a rebellious rage-against-the-machine attitude. I thought I'd treat you one of my general philosophies: Arrogant, Big-headed, Overly confident, Vain, Sexy (no only joking. :-)) are but to mention a few tags I am labelled with on a day to day basis. I walk ...  Read the complete review

I have been noticing a lot of my friends throughout middle school and college are very conscious about their weight. All the girls seem uncomfortable with their bodies, and suprisingly so do a lot of guys I talk to. I was wondering what type of natural way can I explain to my friends that are anorexic/ bulemic that food is actually healthy and that when they see me eat something more than a salad that it isn't neccessarily a bad thing. I always try to explain that the body thrives on certain types of fat, and other nutrients. They have somehow gobbled down the notion that the healthy way is a non-fat diet and they are gaining weight! After witnessing my ...  Read the complete review

In the past life has thrown its usual garbage at me. None of us escape unscathed. I’ve always managed to conquer these hard knocks and face the future with an optimistic view, a brave face and my favourite perfume. But not this time. Six months after the death of my special Dad and I could feel myself slipping very steadily into a black hole and losing my grip. I spent the Saturday of my birthday in April sitting waiting for the telephone to ring and to hear him sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me as he always had done. I cried all day. I knew then I was experiencing a mild form of depression. I thought about the last few months. How I had ...  Read the complete review
