Advantages: Fun way to get healthy, Readily available

Disadvantages: None

How many of us can say we eat enough fresh fruit? Even if we do eat some throughout the week, are we still missing out on some of the most nutritious fruit available? The odd
orange or apple here and there is OK, but there are some excellent berry fruits that are superb health boosters too.

Summer berry fruit contains important nutrients and plant chemicals which can help to combat a wide range of health issues. This type of fruit can be eaten fresh, in juices, jams and sauces too.

Blueberries

Apart from being able to strengthen night vision, blueberries improve circulation and may help certain conditions of the eyes such as glaucoma and cataracts. There is also suggestion that a blueberry rich diet could slow down age related loss of memory function.

Cherries

This fruit can help eliminate toxins through the bowel and kidney. Gout sufferers have also reported that by eating a handful of cherries (or drinking a glass of cherry juice daily)the condition can be greatly alleviated. Juice of black cherry also combats bacteria which can cause tooth decay.

Raspberries

This fruit, which is a very rich source of iron, is said to be able to sooth sort throats if sucked, owing to it's astringent
properties. Raspberry leaf tea can help to lessen period pains and to aid childbirth.

Strawberries

Believe it or not, strawberries contain even more vitamin C than oranges, as well as being a rich in vitamin B (folate). They can help to combat many viruses and there
has been research done which says that a diet rich in strawberries may reduce cancer risk.
