Advantages: none, didn't work
Disadvantages: cost money and wasn't effective
This practise can't cure your illnesses but it might make you feel better if you believe in it. What is crystal therapy? +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Crystals and gemstone therapy is designed to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Crystals can be mulifaceted, cubic, or prismatic, but it is the perfection of the crystal's atomic structure that is said to help recipients of this treatment to approach perfection themselves. Practitioners hold that animals can benefit from this treatment and that the aura of buildings and places can be improved with crystals. There are thousands os different minerals that form crystals and these are used by crystal therapists, or as an 'extra' by other holistic practitioners. How does it work? ++++++++++++++++++ Crystals are said to give off electromagnetic energy which can transmit healing forces to the meridians within the human body. (Well, that's the theory.) Quartz, for example, is said to radiate energy in the same way as it can generate a piezo-electric spark. Amber is said to be calming. Is it effective? +++++++++++++++ Crystal therapy isn't used to remedy specific health problems so there isn't much evidence that can be scientifically measured. Crystals are holistically to improve well-being and there have been claims that it lifts depression and can help rheumatic and arthritic pain. It had no effect on me at all. I'm a qualified holistic therapist but I never use crystals in any way, as I am not convinced of their effectiveness. However, I have heard people say that the therapy does work. If they work for you then that's fine! What works for one person often doesn't work for another and vice versa. What happens during treatment? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There are different ways of using crystals but the trea
tment I had looked and felt quite odd (to my way of thinking!) The therapist talked to me for a while and then 'grounded herself'. She carefully selected a crystal from a black velvet pouch. The choice she made was amethyst which is a pale purple colour. She then held the crystal over various points on my body, saying that she was healing the chakras. Is this therapy safe? +++++++++++++++++++++ No harm can be done by using crystal therapy unless the patient avoids seeing a medical practitioner about a serious illness. Never use any alternative therapy to treat a serious medical condition, one you haven't had diagnosed, or a complaint that you are being treated for, without asking your GP to give his permission. All reputable holistic practitioners do a thorough consultation before treatment and will ask for a doctor's letter if appropriate. How much does it cost? ++++++++++++++++++++++ My treatment cost twenty pounds for a half hour session. You can buy gemstones in markets for as little as a few pence each. If you really want to try out the power of crystal healing, this would seem to be the logical and least expensive place to start. Verdict. +++++++ As far as I'm concerned, this didn't work. It was a total waste of money and using the information I have picked up so far, I would not use it in my own practise. However, it should be remembered that everyone is different. Healing, particularly of emotional and psychological problems, can depend very much on mental attitude. It may be that if you believe this therapy will work, then it will.

- 26/03/02 I use crystals a great deal in my healing work and find them to be excellent at augmenting certain energies necessary for healing. Personally I find that they are particularly geared to healing the psychological/emotional/s piritual underpinning the phsyical. |
