Advantages: no smell
Disadvantages: messy, painful
Whilst watching QVC the other day, my attention was caught by the presenter giving one of the cameramen a bit of leg-hair removal. Hey, I thought, I'll have some of that - it looked so simple, and very effective. The product was Surgi-Sweet natural sugaring system. It arrived the day before I was due to go on holiday, and ignoring the advice to try it out on less sensitive areas first (hey I've given birth - what could be more painful than that??) I was up in the bathroom, mirror balanced on the sink and my leg up on the toilet, attempting to do my bikini line. The first thing I found was that actually smearing on the solution was in itself painful - it was tugging hairs as it went on. Got over that hurdle, smoothed on the strips ready to pull, took a few deep breaths to psyche myself up, and then ripped it off. It hurt - but I expected that, got a satisfying amount of hair on the strip (mixed with a few spots of blood!), and then examined the offending area. NOT GOOD. I was left with a lovely bruised area, which took six days to disappear. Needless to say I resorted to shaving the other side, and spent most of my holiday with my hand placed strategically at the top of my thigh hiding the offending area. Never say die is my motto, so I tried it again this time leaving it in the sun to soften, and although it went on easier, still had the bruising. My advice - there is a reason sugaring is done in salons - leave it to the professionals!! Me - I'm going to stick to my trusty old razor!
