Advantages: Fuzz free

Disadvantages: Nicks with razors, Pain with waxing

Most women I know, unless they prefer the au naturelle look shave. However, are we using the correct method for each area that we want to de fuzz. Here are some tips from me:

When Julia Roberts appeared at the premier to Notting Hill a couple of years ago, there were gasps of horror as she raised her arm to wave to the crowds, and revealed....her hairy armpit! Oh the horror of it. Personally, I find shaving the easiest method with my underarms, and I recently changed to using a ladies razor called "Venus", which I am sure will inspire me to write an op. If you are going to shave, ideally you need a razor with a slightly rounded head which pivots in order to shave around the curve of your armpit. However, if you want to stay fuzz free under the arms, you will probably have to shave everyday. For a longer hair free time, try waxing, however if you are just going for your armpits waxed, it is much easier and quicker to use the razor.

When I hit puberty, and had hair sprouting from places nobody told me it would, I asked my mum could I shave my legs. She point blank refused, and said I would regret it as the hairs come back thicker and darker. (In reality this is how it appears, but it is not true). She did agree to me using a depilatory cream though. Me being me, I used it once decided it was too messy and took far too long, and that the next time I would ignore my mother and use her razor to have a shave. I was not sure how to use a razor correctly, so I started at the bottom of my leg, and pressed so hard with the razor, I proceeded to remove the skin, and possibly some bone all the way up my shin to my knee. The pain was terrible, and there appeared to be so much blood I feared I would need a transfusion. Surprisingly, I received no sympathy from my mum, and steered clear of a razor for many many years.

Even now, I shave regularly, and I find my shins, knees and ankles are diffiult areas and nearly always nick myself. I have now
reverted to waxing in order to make my legs nick free. Waxing lasts up to 6 weeks, which is a hell of a lot longer than shaving, but the big plus for me is that my legs do not look like I have been attacked by Freddy Krueger. I found going to a salon for waxing was expensive and time consuming, so I wax at home. I have tried many different waxing kits, but the one that works for me is Immac Aqua system roll on. It is cleaner and easier to use as there is no dripping wax going from a pot onto my leg, it all comes from the applicator, and the wax gets a good grip of the hairs. The only downside to waxing is that you have to let the hairs grow to about 5mm in order for the wax to grip them.

Bikini Line. There is no other method that works as well as waxing. Again I use the Immac roll on. Regrowth can sometimes be itchy, but if you are going to be wearing a swimming costume, for decency reasons, you must de fuzz your bikini line, because as my husbadn says "Spiders legs are not attractive".

I think all in all waxing is a preferred method, but if time and money are at a premium, then I would recommend the new Venus razor.

oooh - you brought back some memories for me then - when I did something very similar at about 15, after my a boyfriend told me I had hairy legs and I tried to hide it from my mum, but few exceptions I don't think i can ever remember losing so much blood. Sadly because of a skin condition I cannot use the wonderous array of hair removal creams, but have graduated to an electric ladyshave, except for the arms, where a razor still works best. Good op.

I will try this Immac product. I have always shaved as I once used Immac about 20 years ago and it was rubbish. However, it was a cream (which stank badly) and I am sure that things have moved on since then! Good op!

I've never had much luck with ladies razors. Cheap old disposable Bic mens razors do the business just fine. Enjoyed your opinion, but I think I'll have to screw up courage to use wax. Ouch!
