Advantages: Affordable treat, gorgeous smell, really does leave skin soft and silky

Disadvantages: No

I don’t think that there can be a more exciting word in the English language than the word “new”. For a dedicated consumer like me, when I see the word “new” it instantly means two things to me. First, here is a product that I have not yet tried (and since it is “new” it is more than likely to be on special offer – see how my mind works? -) and second, here is a product to form the basis of my next review on Dooyoo.

So this week, as I was browsing in Boots, I was thrilled to see a whole row of “news” on an end display. Not only that, but the new product was on a BOGOF.Deep joy!

The product in question is a new (okay, last time I use that word in this review – promise) range of body washes for use in the shower from that well-known brand of Dove.

The Dove range, as I am sure most of you will know, is made by Lever-Faberge, a company formed in 2001 by the merger of Lever Brothers and Elida Faberge. The company is a leader in both household and personal care products, and you will recognise such brands as Sure, Impulse, Salon Selectives, Persil, Surf, Domestos and Cif as well as Dove.

Dove has to be one of Lever-Faberge’s bestsellers. I have used Dove lots of times and am a big fan of the Dove bar for washing my face, because I love the moisturising effect. So I was eager to try the *** range of body washes.

My first test was to decide which of the body washes to try, as there are a number in the range. Should I choose “Refreshing Hydro”,”Triple Moisturising”,”Spa Mineral” or “Stimulating Massage”? Each body wash comes in an easy-grip white bottle, with a blue flip top decorated with the instantly recognisable Dove signature above which hovers a gold dove. To distinguish the different types of body wash, each bottle has a little picture in a different colour.

I selected the Stimulating Massage Body
Wash with a side order of Refreshing Hydro. On returning home I hurried off to the inner sanctum of my bathroom and prepared to be stimulated.

This body wash contains “smooth, slowly dissolving massage pearls” as well as the quarter light moisturising cream for which Dove is renowned. I squeezed some of the body wash onto my sponge and looked for the little pearls. Well, don’t expect to see tiny, white blobs, as I did. The “pearls” are more like blue flecks in the white cream and the effect is a bit like looking at scouring cream. However, do not be alarmed by this. It may look like scouring cream but it smells and feels like Heaven. The Dove scent is gorgeous, not too overpowering but subtle and luxurious. The body wash works up into a rich, creamy lather which lasts and lasts and the whole experience is uplifting and totally indulgent. Close your eyes and inhale the wonderful scent as the body wash gently cleanses, tones and moisturises your body…ooh-ah!

If you can bear to leave this experience behind, step out of the shower and gently dry yourself with a fluffy towel. Then, notice just how soft and smooth your skin feels. The effect is as if you had already smoothed on some body lotion. I was very impressed and can’t wait to try the other body washes, especially the Triple Moisturising one. If my skin feels this soft with one-quarter moisturiser, how will it feel with three times that amount? Watch this space!

I think Lever-Faberge are onto a winner with this range of body washes. An excellent product combined with clever marketing which is visually appealing and offers affordable luxury. Also, since we all like a bit of variety, it is a stroke of genius to launch a range of body washes which offer different things, even if the base product is the same.

While testing Dove body wash, I began to wonder about the use of the Dove logo. After all, no offence to the dove, but it is not the most
intelligent bird, is it? You won’t teach a dove to say its name or do tricks. But then I remembered that the white dove has long been admired for its grace and beauty, and has come to be regarded as the symbol of peace. So what better symbol for skin care products?

The Dove range of Shower Care Body Washes comes in two sizes. I purchased the 250ml size which currently retails at £2.99.But if you hurry, you might still catch this product on 2 for 1 offer at Boots.

Go on, treat yourself. You deserve it!

I've just started using Dove moisturising bubble bath. I spotted the word luxurious on the back and just had to get it. Mmmmm, it really is lovely. I'll have to give the shower gels a try too now.
