Advantages: Wonderfull Aroma, Relaxing
Disadvantages: None
Essential oils are not only used to make rooms smell nice, but it is felt that properly used they can have real benefit to health and well being. Natures way of bringing balance and harmony back into your life. The Essences allow a peaceful balance to return to the individual so that the body is free to heal itself. Only when we are emotionally balanced can we begin healing spiritually, physically and mentally.( I’ve got no chance then!!!!) An African proverb says "We need only look to the trees and the flowers and the vegetation of the earth for healing". Essential oils are distilled from organic plant sources, from flowers, leaves or bark of trees. They are highly concentrated, and contain therapeutic chemicals from the plants. There are lots of different was to use essential oils and many many different ones to use depending on the effect required. Oils that energise Geranium,Cinnamon,Peppermint,Rosemary,Sweet Basil Oils that relax Lavender, Sweet Marjoram, Cedarwood Oils to put you in the mood for Romance, or in the mood for prayer and meditation, the list really is endless. As I said earlier there are many ways to use these oils and I will share with you a few of the things that I have tried. Vapourisation..... Almost daily and it least in one room of my house I will have an oil burner lit, with a few drops of Lavender oil in, just to make the rooms smell good, I use about 6 drops of oil and fill the rest of the oil burner bowl with water, when it is heating up it under it's little tea light (Of which I go through hundreds in a month!) releases the wonderful vapours. First Aid... Neat application: Generally essential oils should not be applied undiluted to skin. However, there are some exceptions. Try lavender and tea tree oils for burns, cuts and insect bites and lemon for warts. As a compress for bruising or strains Add 5 to 6
drops of essential oil into a bowl of hot water. Immerse a small towel into the bowl, squeeze excess water from the towel and apply to the area being treated. Avoid use on broken blood vessels. For a cold compress, add the essential oil to cold water. For athlete’’s foot try soaking feet in hot water with lavender, tea tree, myrrh or patchouli essential oil. When feeling bunged up with a cold or flu then steam inhalation should help to ease the symptoms. Add 3 to 5 drops of Peppermint oil into a bowl of hot water to make a facial steam bath. Place your head over the bowl with a towel over your head to hold in the steam. For headaches try a temple massage or diffusion of chamomile, clary sage, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, rosewood and spearmint For a soothing sunburn spritzer blend 3 ounces of distilled water with 5 drops of tea tree and 10 drops of lavender oil. Store in the fridge of your apartment on holiday and spray when cooling relief is needed..I can highly recommend this!!! It most definitely.( A little hint though..I sprayed some on my husbands red face..when he had his mouth opened and he nearly choked to death...maybe I might try that again!!!) General well being... To aid in clear thinking try blending 3 ounces of sweet almond or jojoba oil with 3 drops of lavender, 2 drops of lemon, 2 drops of peppermint and 2 drops of spearmint. Gently finger massage temples in times of confusion or stress! Add a couple of drops of your favourite oil to hot bath water along with a couple of spoon fulls of sea salt and just relax, unwind and wash away the cares of the day. At this time of year when you are struggling to think of a Christmas gift for someone consider perhaps an oil burner and a selection of oils, or perhaps a kit that comes with a book on aroma therapy, which is how I got started. So as you can see the oils have many uses, and are used by
many. Even if they don’t all do exactly what they say on the label then at least you will smell nice!

HeavenlyTwin - 26/12/01 Excellent opinion, and it's nice that essential oils are coming back into the mainstream after all the years of synthetic stuff. Congrats on your first crown, too, lady! Well done! Rose:) |
