Advantages: Completely covers scars and redness, Lasts all day, SPF 12
Disadvantages: Quite pricey
I really hope that people find and read this, not so I get more money (well, not totally..) but because I have such a strong belief in the brilliance of this product. WHY I NEED IT Having suffered quite badly from acne as a teenage and as an adult (still controlling it) I have a few scars on my face. The scars are not pitted or at all deep; they are more like red marks that look quite obvious if I don't wear any makeup. If I have a bad breakout then I get more red marks as a leftover. How nice! I used to use basic foundation to cover up the scars. When I was younger and awful at choosing the correct shade, this resulted in me walking around looking 'slightly orange', as my friend kindly described it! I never bought any makeup products over the price of £10 before a few months ago. I have tried lots, including Boots No7, Bourjois (very good) and some extremely cheap brands from 'Just Beauty' that did more harm than good. HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT I was married in April this year and was desperate to find something to cover up any red marks that I may have had to endure on the big day. I did lots of research on make-up, finding 'www.weddingguide.co.uk' extremely useful for tips and reviews, and eventually decided to opt for more expensive brands of make-up for my wedding. Someone on the site mentioned how great Estee Lauder products were, and they mentioned 'Maximum Cover' as one of the best, if not the best, cover-ups available. I BOUGHT IT! I went out and bought it the next day from an Estee Lauder counter in Bentalls, Bristol. Having not been to a proper make-up counter before I was initially browsing quite shyly around the products, picking them up and putting them down like a kid in a toy shop. I must have looked a like a easy target for sales and I was approached by an immaculate (of course) lady in white. (No, not red.) Quite embarrassed about the reason of my visit to the cou
nter, I muttered 'Mxmum cvr..' and hoped she would completely understand, whip out a tube for me to buy and let me escape the clinical atmosphere without further ado. No such luck. 'OH- MAXIMUM COVER?' she asked, rather too loudly, rather like the advert when the lingerie assistant shouts out 'HAVE WE GOT THIS IN A SIZE 12?', much to the male customer's mortification who's buying some sexy underwear for his wife. Anyway, I confirmed that yes, I did indeed want 'Maximum Cover'. She looked at me and began to scrutinise my face. I felt every spot grow 10 times larger and every pore change into a Welsh valley. My worst moment was yet to come. 'Yes', she said, 'That product could definitely help you'. Humiliation! Embarrassment! Shame! She thought I needed cover-up! Of course I knew I did, that's why I was there, but I didn't need her to confirm it to me. When I thought I had suffered the worst she took me closer to the counter, beneath the brightest light I have ever had the misfortune to be under, and proceeded to 'try it out on me'. As her soft fingers touched my lumpy red skin I cringed and wished she would not look so intently at it. Passing customers glanced at me and raised their eyebrows, the other consultants stood around watching like I was a rare animal being tested, and inwardly I prayed for quick death. Pat, pat, blend, blend - 30 seconds later and she was done. Giving her a polite smile, I turned to the mirror to view the results. WHAT I SAW I saw my face, for the first time in a long time, without my scars and redness. The shade she had chosen was perfect and my skin really did look much better. Outcome to my embarrassing experience? I bought it on the spot. (No pun intended!) THE COMPANY For those of you who are interested in the cosmetic company's history and success I will just tell you that they were founded in 1946 in
New York by the beauty queen Estee Lauder who gave away free samples to get her products known. Their products are sold in 120 countries and 61% of sales are in the US with Europe/Middle East/Africa totalling 26% of net sales (2001 stats). THE PRODUCT OK, now the important stuff. The product I bought is called 'Estee Lauder Maximum Cover' and is available from Boots, Debenhams. John Lewis...you get the picture -every big goddamn store where Ester Lauder pitch a tent. -The tube is about 12cm long, dark blue with gold writing and actually looks very smart. -It is described as 'lightweight makeup' and it really does feel light on your skin, and yet it covers up scars and redness completely. It's actually made for people who are recovering from plastic surgery but used by millions who just want effective cover. -It's a waterproof, silicone, non-comedonic and non-acneogenic foundation that stays where you put it and will still be there at the end of the day! -It offers SPF15 and the shade range is also pretty good. -Ok, the price is £17.50 which I know is quite pricy, but it lasts for absolutely ages with some users claiming a couple of years' usage from just one tube. You really only have to use a tiny amount each time you use it. Well, that's my op done on this miraculous makeup product. If you want further confirmaton of its wonders then just look at it under a search-engine and it will bring u lots of reviews from satisfised customers singing its praises. By the way, after suffering from chronic acne for years (I am now 26 and had acne since I was 11) I have researched lots about curing it, and after trying numerous things I now have it completely under control. I will write a different opinion on this sometime soon and tell you all how to rid yourselves of horrid acne.
