There is a nifty website - quitnet.com (more on this later)- that calls the first week 'Hell Week.' It's aptly named. I felt as if all the joy had been sucked from my life. I was avoiding th...more

I'm not going to preach about how inconsiderate smokers are, because I was one. I'm not going to comment on how stupid they are not to heed the dangers, because I didn't. I'm not going to tell of how easy it is to give up if you really want to, because it isn't. I know I've done it. So what am I going to say? Simply, if you are in the process of trying to stop, then keep at it, you'll get there eventually but it's going to be a long, hard struggle. Yes I knew all the health risks, like all smokers do, but it is a lifestyle some people enjoy, and I was one of them. I had been smoking for about 25 years, from the age of 11. From the age of about 20/21 I smoked 20-30 cigarettes a day. Between the ages of 21 and 36, that was a lot of cigarettes, about 9600 per year and over ...

Some people may know, others will not but I have recently given up smoking and I have not had a cigarette? today! Sounds drastic I know but as in the methods of alcoholics anonymous, you cannot give up a habit for life, until you are dead! I say this because I have actually quit smoking on numerous occasions, but have always returned to the "dreaded weed" eventually. So my first piece of advice would be to take each day at a time! Anyway, the first thing to consider when contemplating the removal of this habit is of course WHY do YOU want to give up? The main reason for failure, my own included was due to the fact that each attempt I made stemmed from ...
