A long time ago I owned a book called "A Year of Health and Beauty".It was written by Vidal and Beverly Sassoon and was my inspiration for this op as it contained lots of advice on good hair care.

In this op I aim to share some of my favourite tried and tested tips .

A Good Shampoo:
The first step to having gorgeous hair is a good shampoo.Shampoo cleanses hair and de greases.

Ideally you should always wash your hair in the shower as in the bath it will pick up the dirt and soap from your body and therefore never really be clean.

I find that washing my hair everyday or every other day keeps it in best condition as I swim a lot and need to clean the chlorine out.If you use lots of products washing daily will help prevent the dullness these can cause.

There is no one shampoo which is best. For coloured or dry hair I recommend Clairol Herbal Essences as it has a lovely smell and has very good conditioning effects. It also seems to preserve the colours of dyed hair. For greasy hair ,I recommend Original source as it is really refreshing.I wouldn't recommend Fructis Shampoo to anyone,as even though it has a nice smell it doesnt give a nice shiny effect after a few uses.
It's a good idea to change your shampoo every so often as it seems to keep your hair shinier.

Always rinse your hair more than you think you need to to prevent itchiness of left over shampoo.

You only need to use a 20pence size drop of shampoo for short hair and a 50pence size drop for long hair.To ensure you spread out the shampoo properly rub between yur hands first.

If you alternate between a clarifying and moisturising shampoo you will prevent build up of products and will keep it soft.

The World Of Conditioners:
After washing your hair you should always conditioning rinse even if you have oily hair type.On oily hair its best just to apply to the tips to prevent split ends.Conditioners deta
ngle and moisturise hair.

Leave your conditioner on for a couple of minutes for best effect.
When you condition give yourself a relaxing head massage by moving your fingers on your scalp in small circles. You can do this at any time.

Intensive conditioners ,used weekly, help to condition hair and prevent damage. If you wrap hair up with a warm towel it should increase the effect of the product. Some people recommend using homemade mixtures or warm olive oil to condition..DONT!Mixtures make a mess and olive oil takes about 20 washes to get out.

Rinse with a little cold water for really shiny hair as it smooths the cuticles.Occasionaly try rinsing light hair with lemon juice or dark hair with vinegar.
Leave in conditioners are great to prevent drying damage and add a shine to hair. They are usually a spray in form and help to detangle.

AND SO TO DRYING:
When blowdrying hair use the dryer about 5" from your head.

Try to allow your hair to dry naturally as much as possible.

If you have to use a dryer towel dry your hair first to get most moisture out.

OTHER TIPS:
Try wearing using accessories to add interest to your hair.I sometimes wear a circlet of beads around my head or braid in ribbons and beads.

When colouring your hair rub vaseline on your hairline to prevent staining.

Try using hair mascaras and coloured gels for an interesting effect.Colouring just the tips of light hair can look funky,or doing strokes of colour on the under layers.Colours can stain hairs for a few washes though so beware.

Some really useful tips there, thanks. Rinsing hair with vinegar is also supposed to prevent kids catching headlice.

Great op. I like to use Aveda Shampoos and conditioners as they dont use any petrochemicals so I get no build up.
