Advantages: Feel better in the morning
Disadvantages: You have to be sensible
Hangovers? We all have them, well those who drink on the odd occasion do anyway. Hangover cures? We all have those too, there are simply loads of them to beat those morning (and sometimes all day) after blues. No matter how many times you say "never again", you've probably many more spinning rooms, thumping heads and sick buckets to deal with if you continue in the same vain. So what causes hangovers? Well dehydration mainly. Alcohol is a "diuretic", which means that it increases weeing and makes the fluids from the body flush out quickly. If you think that simply drinking coffee the following morning helps, it doesn't, it only increases the problem because coffee is also a diuretic. It's not just this though, some drinks contain poisons - although they are very mild. Having a long night out and abusing your body with drink and fast food is obviously going to take it's tolls. I've found the number one way to ensure you don't get a hangover is simply to stay completely sober - but this isn't much fun is it? If you're a smoker, your hangover will probably be twice as worse as that of a non-smoker - so quit now!! Mood can play a part in the way alcohol can affect you - if you are depressed, you're more likely to get drunk quicker. If you are tired, unfit or unwell you are also likely to feel the effects more in the morning. If you are a brandy, whiskey, rum or red wine drinker - you are more likely to get a bad hangover than if you are a white wine, vodka or gin drinker - so think about what you order carefully! Things which might help: Before you get drunk: Eat well, a meal with a good deal of fat, and drink milk. The milk slows down the rate at which the alcohol is absorbed. Whilst you are getting drunk: Drink a glass of water in between each alcoholic drink - whilst this might not seem cool, you'll be the one laughing
the next day. If you like to vary your drinks, try the hard stuff before getting beered up. Remember this rhyme: "Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, never fear." Try and limit your drinking to one drink per hour or less, you'll probably come home with some change too. Once you've stumbled home (preferably by walking): Drink water before going to bed - lots, it will help with the dehydration. Also take Vitamin C tablets or juice and eat toast. Next morning: Hopefully you'll be well enough to drink lots of water, juice, eat more toast, and eggs. Have a lie in if you can, it helps to recover your body. Once you're up, exercise will help sweat out some of the toxins. All exercise is good (including sex with a willing partner). If you can't face food (or sex), try a really strong cup of Camomile tea. If none of the above work, try a mixture of bitter almonds and raw eel or vinegar and raw eggs.

- 26/07/04 Tee hee I have to agree with skittle! On the subject of drinking water between each drink, I'd forget that after about four as I'd be too drunk to remember :OD |

- 26/07/04 Some of your cures sound worse than suffering with a hangover... I mean, raw eel, for heavens sake??? Even the idea of it is turning my stomach |
