When I went into hospital for my hysterectomy I kept a diary of what happened and how I felt as a friend of mine was due to have the same operation. I have decided to submit this account in order to try and help anyone else undergoing the same operation. I had an ovary removed a few years earlier and they would not do a hysterectomy then as I might still decided to have children. At 42 I always thought that hysterectomy was an operation for much older women, until I was told that I should consider having one myself. I have some big fibroids (benign tumours on the uterus) and for a few years I have lived with the nuisance value of: heavy periods, pain, backache, fatigue and anaemia. This condition is very common and is one of the most usual reasons for a woman to have a hysterectomy.
