Advantages: Super Healthy and Easy to make
Disadvantages: May be bad for you if you over do it!
A few years ago I suddenly became of a fan of the whole juicing fad. Another diet stricken fad had appeared in all the magazines, mainly about eating a lot healthier and basically juicing was incredibly easy to do which would mean you would be able to get your five a day a lot easier. This seemed easy or so I thought. After buying a book and juicer I discovered that it actually isn't just as easy as putting things into a juicer, blending and drinking! It was all about the different combinations!
I still use my juicer everyday before and after work as I'm really quite lazy when it comes to getting my five a day, so juicing is a much better option for me! I will be reviewing my favourite juices and highlighting the benefit of each combination which will hopefully explain it a bit better!
Juicing is basically removing the fibre from fruits, vegetables and herbs allows us to release the essential nutrients in liquid form, which otherwise would take a lot of time and chewing to eat. Juices are also much easier for the body to absorb and digest. As we are now being encouraged to eat a bare minimum of 5 different portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
Because most of the vegetables we eat (apart from salads) are cooked before eating we lose a significant value of vitamins, minerals and enzymes contained within them. So when we eat cooked vegetables we are not getting as much goodness from them as we could. Fruit and vegetables in their uncooked state are often referred to as 'Raw Foods' and there is now a large number of everyday people following a strict 'Raw Food' lifestyle (even animals can now follow this diet!).
Carrot Combinations provide you with caloric power which are ideal for mornings and during the daytime whether at home or at work. Depending on what combinations you have they can have wonderful benefits, such as beet juice is a stimulant for the liver, cabbage is ideal for the stomach and ulcers and watermelon's can flush out toxins out of the kidneys. Carrot juice is probably the most popular of the juices and is packed with beta-carotene which is the vitamin A precursor that helps fight cancer. Carrots are the sweetest of the vegetables and their juice is not just delicious on its own but is great for mixing with other vegetables to increase their appeal. Who knew such great advantages of these veg & fruit!
Carrot Combinations:-
Carrot 1
4 Carrots
4 leaves Spinach
1 small Beet
1/8 head Cabbage
Carrot 2
4 Carrots
3 stalks Celery
1 small Beet
1/2 cup Broccoli sprouts
Green combinations tend to be healing and calming juices. These combinations are ideal for long term energy. These juices are perfect for when your feeling slightly stressed and rundown. Probably best to drink these in the evening when you can try and properly unwind. These juices can be very strong tasting and you may have to sweeten or dilute them, try adding fresh carrot and/or apple juice or simply dilute with filtered water. Although green juices have great health benefits, they should be consumed in moderation.
Green 1
4 stalks Celery
2 Cucumbers
2 Tomatoes
1 Green Pepper
1 clove Garlic
Green 2
4 stalks Celery
4 - 5 leaves Spinach
2 Tomatoes
1/8 head Cabbage
3 sprigs Dill
1 Lemon (no rind)
Fruit Combinations have all sorts of health benefits. Such as cranberries are great to cleanse the urinary tract, as I said above watermelon cleanses the kidneys and citrus fruit such as oranges and grapefruit thin the blood. Among the health benefits fruit combinations are probably the easiest to drink as they are sweeter and probably best for a first time juicer to try, rather than go for a veggie combo and get put off instantly! Fruit juices help to cleanse the body and nourish it with important nutrients, including cancer fighting antioxidants.
Fruit 1
2 Apples
4-6 slices Watermelon
Fruit 2
2 Apples
1/2 cup Cranberries (pitted)
Fruit 3

Of course the above recipes are only suggestions and can be changed to however you like. There is now so much literature on juicing that there are thousands of recipes just waiting to be tried.
