When I was 3 months pregnant I had a scan like all mum to be's. What they told me shattererd our world. I was having twins, two boys was the first bit of news, so with that taken in they went on to tell me that one of my unborn sons had a "little" problemn. He had Post urethal valve failure, which meant in laymans terms that he was not having the use of his bladder. He was not weeing like he suppose. They then offered me a termination as I already had three sons and this one was going to take a lot of care etc. With that I promptly changed medical authority as I felt that they were not even contempating giving my unborn twins a chance. I changed to Dyfed health authority and although it was a difficult pregnancy, we got through. My sons were born one normal, one emergency caesarian and taken straight away into SCBU. Special Care Bay Unit. The one that was ill stayed with me for 1 hour after his birth and was then taken to a specialist hospital 60 miles away for treatment. He had to have a hole cut in his tummy so he could wee through it. He has had several operations which accumalated in him having his kidney taken away 2 years ago. Because he could not wee for 6 months the urine had nowhere to go and effectively killed one of his kidneys. All that was 9 years ago and thankfully he has made a brilliant recovery, no dialysis yet anyhow. As the doctors put it to us, he is carring his own spares department in his twin, but that offers up another opinion, If I had listened to the doctors all those years ago i would not have the delightful twin boys I now have. Itjust goes to prove, the doctors are not right all of the time

- 16/09/01 I am so glad you followed your instincts and had two lovely sons. You are very lucky even though there are problems associated with them. (As with all boys!). Good luck for the future and I hope your son enjoys the life you and your partner have given him. Louise |

- 16/09/01 Big <hugs> and <thoughts>. Good to learn that you all got through it.
Just keep hugging ALL your sons. They may 'pretend' they don't like it (our son stiffens slightly) but we know that he does. Our daughters are more demonstrative. |
