Disadvantages: Shields and Glasses for a month after the op
I used to wear contact lenses but got an infection which meant I couldn't wear them anymore. I hated wearing glasses - so about 4 months ago I had laser surgery on my eyes. I had an eye examination where the doctor checked your eyes and told you a little about the op - you then went ot talk to a nurse in more detail about the op. They won't let you book it there and then you have to go away and think about it. I booked a week later and 3 days after that I was there. I went in @ 3pm - had a few numbing drops put in my eyes and laid down under the laser @3.30 - at 3.40 I sat up and could instantly see without my glasses. You sit in the waiting room for 30 mins and then see the doctor and are ready to go home. I went shopping that evening. Every night for a onth you have to sleep woith guards on your eyes to stop you rubbing them in the night and you have to have eye drops for a week. You still wear glasses for a month but with plain glass in them so that nothing gets in your eyes. After a month everything is fine and you carry on as normal. My only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner. I now have perfect vision without the hassle of lenses/glasses.

- 16/07/00 They have cured up to -50 - you should have seen the glasses - they were classed as "blind" but for really severe cases they do it in 2 hops. The clinic in Leeds is actually in Jimmys (St James Hospital) and for this they do work on their patients FOC.
Mine was -2.5 and -1.75 but my friends mum who had it a few weeks ago was -6 both eyes and it was a sucess. |

Mine is -7 and -7.5 and I'm not sure that it can "cure" such sever myopia? |

- 08/07/00 Have you researched the long term affects. I would be worried as this is not reversable. |
