Advantages: none - i had to get out - couldn't bear it.
Disadvantages: smells evil, doesn't make you shine, don't use it!
For a few months now I have been treasuring my little bar of ?Something Wicked This Way Comes Luxury Bath Melt??saving it?waiting for the day when I could slip it into my bath, soak in it?s gorgeous aromatic oils and sparkle all evening. Well, the day finally arrived and after the experience, here I am sitting with a towel wrapped round me and my hair dripping down my back. All because I can?t wait to tell you how truly truly truly AWLFUL it was! It would be a great misfortune if I hesitated to take 5 minutes dry and dress whilst some poor unfortunate soul went out and bought this very product. So I?ll start with the Lush description: ?Possibly the Queen of our new bath melt selection, Something Wicked sashays in with shades of pink glitter that give you that special look for the night ahead. Ginger and jasmine envelope you in a sensual haze of soft, warm, welcoming swirls of glittery, moisturising foam. Wicked in every sense of the word.? (Lush Times) Yes, well. ?Wicked in every sense of the word? says it all. On the positive side, the bath melt ?melted, and quickly at that. But the rest is as far from the truth as can be. To use this particular ?bath melt?, the instructions advise you to hold it under warm running water until it melts away. It only takes about 2 minutes to melt so as soon as your bath is full you can jump in. So as I started to melt it under the hot tap, to my galore, bubbles appeared, light, white and fluffy. A pleasant smell arose (but not wonderful)- you could definitely smell the jasmine but not so much of the ginger. Now, the ?Something Wicked?? is a smallish bar (just 30g), bright purple, covered in pink and purple glitter and has the word ?WICKED? moulded on the top. As I said,
I had been saving this one for a long time as it needs a very particular occasion for a girl to go out covered in glitter?it?s not just your everyday kind of thing (unless you are a fairy godmother). But I really needn?t have bothered. As I ran it under the water, the top layer disappeared taking the glitter with it. I thought it would be throughout but it appeared not. However, the surface was packed solid with glitter so I thought there would be enough to make me sparkle through the night. When all was done, in I got. This is when the horrors started. As soon as my skin made contact with the water, all the bubbles disappeared ? you could hear them fizzing away and within 5 seconds it was just cloudy water. I slid down, relaxed for a few minutes, inhaled deeply and sat up again quickly whilst choking. The lovely jasmine and ginger I expected seemed to have been tainted with chlorine. Fine if you are in the swimming pool but not good in the bath. But I didn?t get out right away; I still wanted to sparkle so I splashed around for a few more minutes, wondering if my other half hadn?t cleaned the bath properly the day before because something scratchy was irritating my bottom and legs. Not being able to bear the smell any longer, I examined my skin for sparkles. None. So I looked at the water. None. Or so it seemed. On closer inspection (and by ?closer? I mean with my nose 2 cm away from the water surface), I could just make out a few sparkles at the edge, where the water meets the bath. I tried to grab them as they floated past to rub them on my arms but no avail. In admittance of defeat, I got out. As I watched the water drain away I was severely disappointed. It was the worst bath I?d ever had. Suddenly, as the bottom of the bath started to appear, I caught a glimpse of purple?.a bit more
?a bit more?and there they were?all my tiny sparkles?thousands of them. They covered the bottom of my bath so thickly it looked like I?d painted it. So that?s where they went. And that?s what was scratching my bum and legs all that time! The shining particles, stuck proudly to the bottom of the bath and although I really wanted to get back in and roll around in them (eugh! too gross.) I washed them away down the plughole instead. So that?s my sorry tale of my bath this morning. If you do fancy trying this bath melt, despite my pleas, it can be purchased from your nearest Lush store or www.lush.co.uk for £2.99 for 30g (really not worth it!). Ingredients are as follows: Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Laureth 4, Pink Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate), Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Perfume, Ginger Oil (Zingiber officinalis), Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale), Oakmoss Absolute (Evernia prunastri). That?s it from me today. I hope you all appreciate me shivering away as I wrote this. I?m off to get dry and dressed. Lisa :0) (P.S ? To those of you who worry about this sort of thing (I personally don?t think it matters too much), I?ve had to put this review in ?lush bath and shower in general? as there is no ?Wicked?? category and I already have a review in ?Lush Luxury Bath Melts? so Dooyoo won?t let me put it there (only to overwrite my Melting Marhmallow Moment review). If you bear with me, I?ll try to get it moved asap.)

GuruOnAMountain - 07.08.04 I think Lush stuff tends to be very expensive and is generally disappointing, but my big sister loves the stuff *sigh*. |
