This is the way we brush our hair,
Brush our hair,
Brush our hair,
This is the way we brush our hair,
On a cold and frosty morning.

Continuing my series of things we do in the morning, we arrive at brushing our hair. Now my hair is dyed blonde so it is dry and damaged. It needs a good wash and a whole heap of conditioner to get a brush through it successfully. Recently, I have discovered another miracle product to add to the equation and this is what I want to tell you about this time – Buddha Bar from (sorry, blokes) Lush.

Until a few weeks ago, my scalp had always been okay and I hadn’t really had any problems with it. Then all of a sudden, I began scratching it and my head began to get little sore bits and dried scabs – not very nice. I knew it wasn’t dandruff and it wasn’t the dreaded nits now the kids are back at school, so what was it?

Talking to me old mate Allie, she recognised what I described as being a problem scalp and recommended I try the Buddha Bar from Lush. She had been raving about how wonderful it was, but I hadn’t thought I had any need for it, but I obviously did now. She kindly cut me off a chunk of hers and off I went home to try it.

The Buddha Bar is a rather unassuming thing. It’s neither pretty nor ugly. It looks somewhere between a slab of chocolate and a rock. It is a dusky, muddy brown kind of colour and is a hard bar.

I think it smells lovely, but it’s another one of those ‘love it or hate it’ smells really. It’s quite perfumed, a masculine fragrance and very slightly medicinal. Its contents include Fleece flower infusion, Rhassoul mud, Frankincense resin and vanilla, so that might explain the scent and the colour of it.

According to the Lush Times, the fleece flower is to improve the condition of your scalp, sedra herb to help increase shine, the mud is for its high mineral content to help with flaky s
calps and the frankincense resin is in there to calm the scalp. The Buddha Bar costs £1.95 for a 100g bar, which lasts ages and hardly seems to go down at all.

So ho did it work on my head? The proof of the pudding is in the washing and all that. Well, as usual I stood under the shower and wet my hair. I am used to solid shampoo bars so had some idea how to use it, but Allie had told me you need to rub it quite hard on your scalp for it to lather well.

I did this and she was right, you need to scrape the bar over your scalp – which sounds painful, but is actually rather nice, especially if your scalp is flaky and itchy. After a few rubs, you get the usual lather you would expect from any shampoo. I rubbed this in, let it stay there for a minute or so then rinsed it off.

I conditioned and dried my hair as usual, then brushed it through. Not only was it easy to brush, but my scalp didn’t feel sore like it had done before. When my hair was dry, it looked lovely, clean and shiny and I was very impressed.

But of course, I used the Buddha Bar specifically to deal with my scalp problem, so how did it perform there? Well, it is indeed a miracle product. After only one wash, my head felt much better and there were fewer sore bits and scabs. After using it for around two weeks, it has cured my problem. What higher recommendation could you want?

I tend to use my normal shampoo a couple of times a week and the Buddha Bar a couple of times a week too. This seems to be the best way that has the most impressive results on the condition of my hair and scalp.

So another highly recommended product from Lush. If you have a problematic scalp, try this stuff. Go on, even you cynics and anti-Lushites out there, give it a try. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

This opinion is Part Three in a series of four.

Look out for the concluding part ‘On A Cold and Frosty Morning’ coming next w
eek.

Avon seems to have taken a backseat now that you are in your Lush phase!
