Advantages: Impressive Food, Fashionable Clothing, Great Service
Disadvantages: Some poor staff
For all the bad press coverage and media attention that has dogged M&S for the past four years, it is now clear that the company has turned itself round and are starting to provide good clothing/food and accessories. Being a 23 year old male means that M&S has never been on the top of my shopping list, however, that has all changed now. I regularly buy all my food from M&S, it may be a few pounds more expensive but at least I'm guaranteed a good meal and I now the food will last for longer than a day or two in the fridge. I have been especially impressed by the monthly change to ready meals, onw month it may be roast duck with orange to the next month when it may be beef ghoulash. Going on to mens clothing now, they've created mens suit that you can wash at home, I managed to pick one up for £99 and must admit that I haven't been dissapointed. The styling is very fashionable, it is quality made with lots of double stitching and best of all it does actually keep its shape after I wash it at home. They also have a new range called Blue Harbour both for men and women, providing smart casual clothing. Very stylish again and reasonably priced too. Then there is View From, another clothing range that provides sports clothing to both men and women. Ok, so you don't get the Reebok or Adidas logo, nut you do get sports clothing at a great price that feels comfortable and can actually be worn for sports activity (take note Reebok & Adidas). The overall service varies greatly from store to store, some staff can hardly speak English and are absolutely clueless when you ask about styles, cuts and pricing. Other (older) members of staff are very knowledgeable and can find just about anything I ask for. Overall, I would highly recommend M&S to anyone, it looks like they've made their comeback and will only continue to improve.

Monacat - 15/01/03 I've heard that people working in food and cosmetics production take extra pleasure in doing horrid things to products destined for M&S, due to its middle class image. It could be an urban myth, of course. I like their fruit when I feel like spoiling myself. |
